I did a little bit of search on this forum and it is not clear to me when some say they are gtting caller ID. I just purchase Magicjack from a Walgreens location and was able to sniff credentials and enter it on my SPA-3102, line 1. There are two issues:
B) All incoming calls are only showing the calling party number in two places. That is, where the name should be, I'm getting the number for the person calling. Is it possible to get both the calling party's name and number to show up on the caller ID? I know that information is sent by the T-Mobile cell phone/@home phone and my regular pots line that I have used for the test.
B) The use of the ATA works fine without the need to enter any information ( MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)?) related to :
i) SIP User Agent Name:
ii) SIP Reg User Agent Name: or
iii) SIP Server Name:
Is (i) - (iii) really necessary and what does it do?
BTW, on the SPA-3102, I enter the my name in the "Display Name" filed on line 1 and for some reason, it shows up on all the T-Mobile at home system that I have called. I thought this would NOT work on outgoing? It does not work on T-Mobile cell phones and I have not checked it a regular POTS line. Does this work on ALL VOIP system?

Re: Caller ID Name/Number
This info is relative to the MJ world. Other VOIP and PSTN carriers work differently in many aspectsfala wrote:I did a little bit of search on this forum and it is not clear to me when some say they are gtting caller ID. CID Number is native to the original call and passes relatively transparently to receiving party. MJ does not allow you to specify CID NAME as some carriers will.
Cell phones only have a single line to display and can only deal with CID NUMBER.
Other parties that you call can only derive CID NAME by doing a local database lookup (costs$$ if outsourced) using the CID NUMBER associated with your call. Otherwise they just use CID NUMBER in both slots.
As you begin to populate your MJ phonebook, this is used as a source for incoming calls to associate name with CID NUMBER.
There are some utilities that will do a web based lookup using resources like Addresses.com, anywho.com, telcodata.com white/yellowpages.com and the ever popular google to find a matching NAME related to the CID NUMBER. The major problem is this info is only presented on your PC screen, not the display of your phone handset.
You may also wish to look at magicbeans.com as I think he has this on his wish list.
