Best phone or headset for traveling

Post by newyorkjerry »

Hi. Newbie question:

Can you recommend a headset or mini phone for traveling with my Magic Jack?

I'm using a cheap and basic linux netbook.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
Have you confirmed MJ will work on your Linux netbook? Are you running an XP emulator?

Do a search for "flip phone" or "travel phone" in these forums, lots of discussion on what people use. I haven't found anything better than a GE Slimline phone at about $9 on sale. I and others have tried the "flip phone" but the MJ doesn't put out enough power to run it. The other option is many hotel/motel phones are just standard desk sets and they will work with MJ--but no guarantee. I'm still looking for a decent travel phone.

THe other option is to use a small headset plugged into your netbook.

I just got back from an overseas trip and used magicJack w/o the dongle using only the softphone, the laptop's builtin speakers and microphone. It worked fine. A few of the callers complained that they were hearing echo. But once I blocked the NYC proxy and MJ went thru other proxy servers, no on complained anymore about echo.

Alternatively, I have used just an audio headset and a small computer microphone - worked great. I also have a cell phone-like headset that came with my Creative Live Cam that works pretty well too.
