New to Majic Jack

And I am new to this message board. I have had Majic Jack for about a month and everything is working OK.

However I am trying to prevent it from starting up with each boot. I do not use it often and prefer to keep it turned off until I need it, which is only one or twice a day. (I purchased it for outgoing calls only and do not give out the number for incoming calls).

I cannot find a way to keep it from starting with each boot. I go to Start, Run, msconfig and I cannot find any start up that is checked for magic jack.

Can anybody give me instructions to prevent it from starting up each time the computer is restarted?

I have Windows XP Pro.

I'm guessing you have it plugged in. If so, unplug it. It will start on every reboot if it's plugged in

Nope. You're safe. All your contact info, etc. stays on the MJ. It will even follow you to another computer, which makes it really handy, that way.

Nope the info stays with the MJ unit.
IF you plugged it into another PC your contact list will go with your MJ.

One thing, IF you remove the MJ after it loads be sure to click on the safely remove hardware icon on your taskbar ( lower right on XP screen) first.

You make it sound like it is an inconvenience, so it must be taking a real long time to load.
If you have alot of programs that are trying to start at the same time your Magic Jack will take awhile to load.
I leave my computer on 24/7 so I never had this problem, but my brother uses a laptop and he had a very slow loading Magic Jack.
Just reduce your number of startup programs and this should cure your problem.
It takes my brothers laptop less than 2 minutes to fully boot up including Magic Jack.

Yes, I do have a large load up. Anit Virus, Ad-Aware, Unlimited Power Supply, HD Health monitor, and Cordless Keyboard and Mouse.

Add Majic Jack to the start up and it takes a while. I had 5 other hard drives fail over 4 years, the longest one lasted 16 months. I used to defrag every week and reboot every day. I now realize the physical stress that puts on a hard drive.

I purchased this one with a mirror image set of HD's which are like commercial servers. But my computer is now going on 5 years old and I expect one of the hard drives to fail within the next 6 months. In my first 4 years, I used to keep this one running all the time. The op system was restored in 2007 and now it is starting to give me small headaches, so I reboot every two or three days.
