Why get two?

Post by capecodger »

it's not clear to me from the order page why it is advisable to get an additional magicJack ($39.95) Is it so i can use the 2d on another of my own computers(e.g. laptop) or can i give it to a family member who could register and get their own separate phone number, account etc..

Why get two? Give one to someone as a gift or use one as a mobile phone for a laptop or use one at the office and use another one at home. You could get two to put on two computers at home; you can have one for you at home and one for others living at home :P

OK - the second jack could be a gift - but is it somehow associated with my magicJack account? Can it get its own phone number? Does whoever I give it to have to sign up for subscription charge for that jack?
((Nice to have a place like this where folks know the product and are friendly and forthcoming))

It could be part of your account or a seperate account.

It will have its own number.

No, whoever you give it to will not have to pay for it anymore as you would have already paid for it.

capecodger,

You can buy as many MagicJack units as you want. The purchasing of a MagicJack does not associate it with you in any way shape or form.

The thing about MagicJack that has surprised me from the beginning is even the one you use for your self is in no way associated with you unless you go out of your way to tag it to you when you go online with it to register it. You then provide password and email address. None of which is ever checked.

The only information that they have is the information that you give when you purchase it, that does not mean it is going to be yours and if you give it to some one as a gift and they register it online it is TOTALY divorced from you.

So in fact if you buy a magic jack and give it to someone, they can enter some hotmail address and a password that is so obscure that no one not even MagicJack can determine the true owner/user of said device.

Now to the best of my recollection they did say during the registration portion of the exercise that I would receive an email address conformation email, but never did, that was three months ago and mine still works fine.

If a person wanted to use a communications device for fraudulent purposes a MagjcJack would would give you almost total anonymity. Just go from Internet café to coffee shops and even the Gestapo would have trouble figuring out who and where.

PS - I am in noway recommending the use of MagicJack for fraudulent purposes, Just pointing out that it functions just like a Palm Pilot allowing you to wonder from hot spot to hot spot and never reveal your true identity.
