help!! not working at all

Post by mjscott »

hello all.
got my magicjack the other day....have not been able to get it to work. software has never come up. blue light comes on but magicjack never shows up on computer. been working with tech support chat...tried magic fix....tried mjrecovery....removed musicmatch.....removed all nero products....still nothing.
windows xp ver 2002 service pack 2 no usb hub...going right into computer.

once during the many times i tried the update(magic fix) it did say "downloading now" and then it said....a moment of patience for a lifetime of savings...and then it went away. later it came back and said...lucky you...updating now...then went away...and nothing.

any ideas?

thanks!

Have you tried other ports and did you plug it in direct without the the cable? When you say it starts to install then fails, it sounds like a connection is loose. Be sure it's in there good and it should load up. If not ask them for another one. Have you tried it on another pc?

sax,
thanks for the reply.

plugged in directly...no cable. have tried it on 2 usb ports on same computer. Have not yet tried it on another computer.

It certainly doesn't seem loose. strong blue light at all times. those messages that did come up for a short time came up after it had been plugged in for a while and i was on with tech chat and after i ran the upgrade several times...they didn't pop up right away and then disappear...don't know if that means anything

when i get a chance i will try it on another computer.

thanks

Scott,
It should work for ya-send your info to this guy. He's another tech support person who can give you one on one support.
[email protected]

let us know what happened (if he don't fix it then we go to the main man! lol)

update:
i tried magic jack on a different computer and it worked great!
so now need to figure out why its not working on mine.

i did contact the person mentioned above and am awaiting his response.

one thing we did find last night was i was running magicfix from firefox...not internet explorer....so we made some progress, but still not there yet.

this is what i sent in the email:
My magic jack wont come up on my computer. I tried it on another computer and it worked fine.

I have worked with tech support chat several times....they had me remove music match and all nero stuff.

i use windows xp...always plugging right into usb port...no hubs or cords...tried 3 different usb slots on the computer....blue light always comes on....but nothing comes up....when i ran upgrade...nothing happened...BUT...when i pulled MJ from the computer, the "Warning, magic jack must be plugged into the usb does come up.

Last night...working with tech support....running magicfix(from internet explorer.....all previous times...it was from firefox)....everything came back ok with a green check...except one...where it said...unable to connect to magic jack...unplug and reconnect...if problem persists contact tech support.

any ideas you could offer would be great

great-it may be having some conflict with Firefox or a AV program-I guess you turned off the virus protection right?-Well, if you don't hear back soon (that's MJ talk for sooner or later) we can try another tech guy-and then the boss-

I run Firefox and AVG ani-virus without a problem. I have had very good service since day one, a couple weeks ago.

several days of trying with tech chat support....still no luck. One of the frustrations has been that i've only had a few hours each time to work on it. Every time i went back to tech support...they had me try the same exact things the last person did. They really didn't want to hear that i've tried unplugging and replugging in 100's of times now. I've ran magic fix at least 30-40 times...each time the same thing...unable to communicate with magic jack...contact customer support. Ran the upgrade A LOT. Ran mjrecovery a few times. I don't want to be dogging on tech chat. There is no doubt that they have been trying to help and i must say that i'm glad that something that costs $40 even has tech support. Just trying to get to the bottom of the problem

A lot of times when i plug the magic jack in, while nothing comes up, some things won't work on the computer....example....the start button might not respond....or "my computer" might not respond" or browser might not respond....until the moment i unplug magic jack...then it repsonds right away.

Also, when i plug magic jack in, while the blue light comes on, it rarely shows up in "my computer" as a removable drive. It did twice come up as removable disk L....but i wasn't able to access it.

when i do run the upgrade...nothing happens...but when i unplug the jack...the splash" "Warning...you must plug in the magic jack into the usb" comes up.
