Dedicated MJ PC
I am trying to figure out what is going to give me the best performance for my MJ. There are two options I am condisering for a dedicated MJ box. Either a thin client or an old pc mobo that I have laying around. The old mobo has a pentium d 820 and 2GB of ram. All I need to make it a functional MJ box is a hdd, cd/dvd-rom, and a case. If I decide to build the MJ box I would appreciate any tips/tricks for a screaming MJ box. Thanks in advance for all your help.
I got a barebone msi with intel atom cpu.It uses about 20 watts total with 1 drive. Its been up and running for over 2 months 24/7 hosting vid files to,using vista 32 .

Re: Dedicated MJ PC
If you get a case with the lowest wattage power supply for the mobo, you should do fine. If you already have most of the parts or can get them cheap, I think you'd be ahead compared to buying a dedicated thin client. It would take you years, if ever, to recoup the cost of the thin client from the savings in electricity. I estimated it would take me 17 years to recoup the cost of the TC from the electricity savings (I have a TC just for the aesthetics and fanless operation). A TC draws about 13-19 watts (measured with a power meter). My laptop is in the same range, I don't know about a desktop.Sisko690 wrote:I am trying to figure out what is going to give me the best performance for my MJ.
