they can hear me - I can't hear them

My MJ works as long as my new pavilion is on. As soon as I put it to sleep, I can't hear the caller. I can call out, and receive calls.....no audio on my end. I have not tried a headset. I spent 4 hours chatting with MJ's .....well lets call them agents. No help. I un-installed, and re-installed, no help. Am I right in thinking this is a hardware problem?

There is one thing I didn't mention. My MJ is not recognized by the MJfix. I also can't download the beta mac because it doesn't recoginize the MJ.
