Has anybody here used MagicJack with the new "Clear" WiMax service? I'm running out of options in trying to get broadband in my area without bundling with other services. AT&T won't give me any faster speed than 1.5 mbps on DSL unless I get U-verse, which they charge $150 just to hook-up! Comcast offers 6 mbps for $43/month, but only if you bundle with their TV or VOIP service, which defeats the purpose. W/o bundling they want $60/month. F that. So I can get Clear with 3 mbps for $30/month or 6 mpbs for $45/month, which seems like a good deal, IF it's reliable with MJ. They tell me it will work, but I wondered if anyone here has tried it.
thanks,
Mike

Hi, it depends on how much lag there is in the service. Checking their website, Clear Wimax seems to offer "... you can stream movies, TV, play online games and video chat..." so that suggests lag isn't an issue and should be way more than enough for MJ.MadDogMike wrote:So I can get Clear with 3 mbps for $30/month or 6 mpbs for $45/month, which seems like a good deal, IF it's reliable with MJ. Relatives of mine get their Internet by high powered wifi beamed 19 km to their house. Their download speed is between 250 and 350 kbps and upload is even slower, don't remember, but under 200 kbps. MJ works fine on that service.
In comparison, it seems Clear wimax has ample capacity for MJ. If there is no long term obligation, give Clear a try.

Well, I've had mixed results so far. Basically, it works when it works, but we've had a couple of complete outages that lasted a few minutes each time. The WiMax modem indicated a full signal during the whole outage, but there was no internet for that time period. Of course, I happened to be on a call on MJ both times. We'll see how it goes over the next week or so.magicFox wrote:Yes WiMax works just fine !
