Bluetooth softphone
There may be a post on this board some place but I didn't see it after a little looking.
I installed MJ on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite P105 running Win XP, SP2 with 1GB memory and a 120 GB hard drive. On the whole, I am quite satisfied to date.
I just upgraded my T-Mobile cell phone to one that can use a Bluetooth Headset. Up to this point I have been using a conventional phone plugged into the MJ dongle but I have been considering using a USB headset in it's place.
I am not yet familiar with the ins and outs of the Bluetooth technology (coming soon) but from the MJ FAQs I gather that I could switch to using it by using a USB adapter. My Bluetooth headset is a Motorola H375 model.
What do I need to do to pair my Bluetooth up to the MJ? If someone could tell me how they did it, I'd appreciate it. If I need a different Bluetooh set let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

cmankat,
Unless your laptop has built in Bluetooth you will need one of these; a motorola D200. Please don't substitute any other dongle for the D200 unless you like pain and anguish.
Go here buy this and you will be running Bluetooth MJ ten minutes after you plug the D200 into your system.
http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/en/US ... ageDisplay
Plug in D200 in the search window and it will take you right to it.
PS - the D200 will also talk to bluetooth stereo headsets, a big plus if you are into that sort of thing and it is also a Class 1 device which means it will talk up to 300 feet.

I have a USB Bluetooth dongle using Blue Soleil software that I plug into my Dell laptop. I then paired up my Motorola bluetooth earpiece that I use with my cell phone to the dongle and it set itself up with the bluetooth headset service. Once I did that, I went into softphone and selected the bluetooth headset and pressed the button on the headset. Everything connected and it worked beautifully.
Delavan,
I know I made my post sound like the D200 was the only way to go. I will still stick to that story even though It is not as true as it once was. I started using bluetooth on XP when I switched to Vista my Bluetooth world went to hell in a hand basket.
I stumbled on the D200 out of trial an error (mostly error) I plugged it into my Vista system, it worked and I never looked back.
So anyway you are correct my solution is not the only solution just after my sojourn into the land of Vista Bluetooth left such a bad taste in my mouth I can't in good conscience recommend anything but the D200. Also you can find it on other WEB site for significantly less than the Moto site.

HolmanGT,
No problem. There are a TON of USB Bluetooth adapters out there and the D200 sounds like a nice choice. I'm just cheap and bought the cheapest one I could find on Ebay that had 300m range (which I'm starting to doubt since it usally works only when I'm in the same room). Mine doesn't have a bunch of features but works for syncing my Palm, teathering to my cell phone and now using my Bluetooth headset with MJ. I'm usually not on the bleeding edge because older tech stuff is usually cheaper and meets my needs. MJ is kind of the exception since it was so cheap and works so well. I'm just not thrilled about having to leave the PC on all the time, but I do taskkill MJ and put the PC in standby automatically each night via a scheduled DOS batch file.
Thanks,
Delavan

Blue Tooth Softphone
Thanks everyone for the input and discussion. Since nobody commented on it, my Motorola Blue Tooth should work. Correct? I don't like leaving my PC on all the time either. What are the smallest PCs that would work with MJ? Perhaps one with Windows CE? I'm looking for something with a small footprint with minimal screen size that takes up little soace in a suitcase and needless to say, rus with Blue Tooth.

You want someone to specifically say an H375 will work, good luck. I wouldn't even say that if you were talking about a Motorola phone.
However there is no reason it shouldn't - Motorola dongle to Motorola headset - that is about all the guarantee you are going to get.
Just buy the D200 dongle and give it a try, the chances of it not work are very slim.
Now to the "Small PC" go to ebay and buy an HP Thin Client model t5700,10 or 20. they work great. Memory required 256/256 but 512/512 is much better and with 512 you won't have to do anything accept plug in your MJ. With 256 you have to remove some applications to make room on the hard drive (which is solid state).
The thin clients are totally noiseless and have no moving parts. Unless you drop kick it.

I understand that the only way to know that my Blue Tooth will work is to try it. No problem there. I will also look into the HP Thin Client.

cmankat,
The thin client for this application can't be beat, in its ability or price.
Also if you buy one and decide (or your wife) that it does not fit your decor (whatever) I can guarantee you would have no problem selling it right here in less than 24 hours. It is an MJ users nirvana.
Just don't run off and buy one without having your selection reviewed by someone here. There are about a gazillion flavors and prices. The prices by the way are starting to show an upward swing in the last couple of days and it is probably due to the chatter about them on this site and DSLreports. One seller I know has upped his "Buy Now" price from $89 to $99 in the last twenty four hours. Think he may have gotten wind of the new found use for these items - your bet your bippy !!!

Great advice! I have the D200 and a Motorola 850 BT headset. The audio portion works fine with MJ. I am not able to answer a call using the headset button however. I have to answer the call using the softphone accept button. MJ softphone determines how the BT headset functions are handled. The audio portion is fairly universal but support for things like the answer button probably are different for each BT headset. I suspect MJ will be updating the softphone to support other BT headsets fully as time goes on. Perhaps we should start a thread to report which headsets currently have been tested and which features work with MJ.HolmanGT wrote:You want someone to specifically say an H375 will work, good luck. Using the Thin Client separate computer to handle MJ works very well for many reasons. Low power and it makes it easy to provide QoS to MJ since the Thin Client has it's own IP/MAC and no other function so you can easily tell your router to give priority to the Thin Client via it's IP/MAC.
VaHam,
"I am not able to answer a call using the headset button however"
Well I never mentioned that because that is so peculiar to the Phone it would normally be paired with that I don't think I even tried it, not to mention it is not like you are going to be very far from you computer when you dial a call or for that matter when you receive on.
Albeit the D200 is Class 1 (300 feet) most head sets claim to be Class 2 (30 feet). But it has been my observation after buy about ever headset know to moder man that if you get thirty feet out of you you are very lucky.

HolmanGT,
I just checked out eBay and I found some Motorola/Compaq T5700 but units they all seemed to have 256 memory. How hard is it to find one with 512 memory and also, is it much trouble adding memory? Perhaps I should just slow down and observe. My finance manager (a.k.a. spouse) needs time to think but it would make a great gift.

cmankat,
Before I get started I would suggest nothing less then the T5710. Reason: who wants a mark 1, by the time they got to the 5710s they had most of the bugs worked out and last but not least I use a 5710 256/256 and can testify that it does the job and does it well. But thru second hand knowledge I do know that the 5700 will work also.
If the T5700 has 256 Ram and 256 Flash you are good to go. The only reason 512 flash is better is because you will not have to do anything accept reflash with the newest firmware and plug your MJ in sit back for two minutes and you will be on the air.
If you get one with 256 megs of flash (which is the units hard drive - C: - ) you will have to remove some applications like Windows Media player and a couple of others. But here again no big deal and HP has the software on their site to do it for you.
T5700 - http://search.hp.com/query.html?lang=en ... a=en&cc=us
If you come on a good deal with 256 Flash and something slightly less than 256 ram that is OK if you don't mind spending about 12 to 30 dollars for a new ram module. The ram modules are cheap and easy to find (they are standard laptop SODIMMs PC2700 DDR). HOWEVER the important part is the flash hard drive, they range from a $100 dollars and up and I will not tell you the upper end price. I have seen some and it would scare you and the Boss/Spouse to death, they are also very hard to find. So please don't buy one with lest the 256 megs of flash and preferably 512. Remember this is not your normal Sand Disk thumb drive type of stuff. When you plug it in the system will report it as a real hard drive complete with sector numbers, clusters and landing zone. So it is not something that you can easily work around.
PS @ Forum owner if I was to make a "how to" would you make it a sticky. I am not promising anything because I am inherently lazy but I believe I would give it a go. Not because I no anything special I just hate to see some hear this talk about a thin client and go rush out and buy the wrong thing when there are several of us on here that can save them a lot of heartache and Spousal abuse for wasting money.

OK, I started this subject some time ago but let it lapse.
I am running Win XP on a Toshiba Satellite and using Firefox.
I just purchased a Motorola D200 BT Stereo PC Adapter and as several mentioned, it was not hard to set up. I can listen to Pandora, CDs and any radio stations etc. with BT. I try to use MJ and no luck!!
I tried setting things for headset/other and the call goes through but it does not come through on BT. I can dial and the phone rings but I don't hear a thing. I see on these postings that sometimes different approaches make it work.
Any thoughts and/or tips as to what I could look into woudl be appreciated.
TIA,
Carl

cmankat,
Boy it has been so long since I used my D200 that I don't remember what if anything I had to do to make it work with MJ.
I am sure you have done this already but no one ever posts what they have already done. I am always forced to write done how to do what you have and others have already done. If you knew how well I type you would understand why I am complaining.
Anyway go into the control panel (I am looking at vista right now so the names may be slightly different) > Sounds (Sounds and Audio devices, in XP) and set the default audio and voice devices to your D200 Moto composite device (or whatever name it has given it) in both the Sound and voice tab in XP and the playback and record in Vista.
That should allow it to work with MJ when you have MJ set to Headset & Microphone.
I believe some programs are smart enough to use the bluetooth dongle when it is in an active connection with a headset & mic. and some programs are not. If you give my suggestion a try I am sure you can make it work with MJ it may just be a royal pain in the arse shifting back and forth.

Gorge,
First off, I managed to get my bluetooth adapter and headset working with MJ!
I checked out Sounds and Audio Devices and the D200 was recognized and I could hear the sound made. I also found that Accessories/Entertainment worked. The only thing not working still was the MJ Bluetooth connection.
I connected to MJ and checked the settings for Telephone/Headset and Input/Output. MJ did not seem to see the D200. Both items came up conexantHDaudio. Eventually I checked the drop down menus for each setting and found that in addition to conexantHDaudio, Motorola D200 was available. With those settings in place I was able to make a MJ call using the USB adapter and USB headset. However, the telephone settings revert back to conexantHDaudio.
It looks like MJ doesn't save those settings. Things could be worse since the MJ menu is the only thing needing attention but like most of us I'd like the whole package to work.
Any thought on getting it to save?
TIA,
Carl

cmankat,
No, I sure don't have a suggestion on this one. I never had it forget the settings But I never had a conexantHDaudio card.
It might be related to your audio card, have you made sure you have the most up to date drivers for it... probably not the problem but worth a try.

Probelms using bluetooth headset with MJ
Hey guys,
I've read all your threads, but still I'm not able to use my bluetooth headset "Pleantronics Voyager 510" with MJ...
I think I was able to pair-up the headset with the USB adapter on my IBM T41 laptop!. when I double click on the BT icon, I can the my Voyager 510, but I don't know what to do next?
I have gone to "sounds and audio devices" in ctrl panel, and in the drop down menu, in addition to the SoundMAX (default), I can see "USB Internet Phone By Tigerjet" (I think that's MJ), but I can't see the headset device! It is also worth noting that when I select "USB Internet Phone By Tigerjet" the device volume is all grayed out. i.e. there is no volume.
Also when I go to MJ menu, then to volume headset control, all I can see is the original "SoundMAX" device selected and no other devices (i.e. headset) in the drop-down menu! I have restarted MJ, but to no avail!
Can someone please help...?
THX

Just a guess but you are probably not getting many offers of help because of the nature of Bluetooth - it is usually so peculiar to the make and model that what works with one will not work with the other.
What you might want to take a look at is do you have the audio function in the Bluetooth device turned on. I know that sounds stupid but it is not always the default.
There is usually a list someplace in the Bluetooth configuration with a list of items that you have a choice of enabling or disabling. You might want to start there and make sure the audio in/out is enabled.
Hope this helps a little.
PS - TigerJet is MJ
