Where to start? Use MJ with iPod Touch

Post by TouchMJ »

I am getting an iPod Touch and need guidance if MJ will work on an iPod Touch? Does the Touch need to be jailbroken? How do everyday folks get something like this set up? I'm not well versed with this kind of stuff. The worst thing to happen to me would be to ruin the iPod Touch. Thanks in advance for any suggestions - I'm at a loss how to start my research.

Seems like at least a 2 stage process.
1-Find yourself an IPOD touch-centric board and learn about what is required to use it for VOIP.
2-Then come back here to discover how to grab the sip credentials from your MJ
2a-(May possibly need to implement mjmd5 proxy fix)

Good luck

Using my MJ number via Truphone on iPod Touch

Post by TouchMJ »

Thank you, I've been lurking around a lot of iPod boards and think it is best to get Truphone, an application that can be purchased right from their app store. I want to try to do this without jailbreaking the device.

I put in multiple searches on this board for sip credentials and proxy fixes which delivered "choppy" information (i.e., broken up from many contributors). Some of them I couldn't figure out if they were joking or not. Implementing those results would be next to impossible for this "person off the street". Do you know of a recent link that I could use to go to the next step? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm beginning to think this venture is foolish/impossible for someone without a technical background. Do you have any opinions/thoughts?

I've been very successful getting the Ipod touch to work with Voip and all the Apps they offer have their pros and cons. For example, Siphon has the best quality and the best features and is free but you need Cydia, therefore you need to jailbreak. I also use Fring (also free but worst quality), iPico, and iSip and swap between them depending on quality of call.

As far as being technically savvy, you really just need to read directions and follow procedures. I mainly use Sipsorcery/Google Voice/Ipcomms, etc. as the free Voip service providers but also used MJ with MJMD5 proxy just to prove that works in the house.

Totally free voip on wifi is very possible and it's all a matter of you doing your own homework and being patient.

Good Luck,
