We are going to try this again.
We are using Verizon wireless card in laptop and are wanting to dial out from a Dish Network TV receiver. I have read that voip will work if the modem prefix is reset. Is there anyone on this forum that would know what the prefix would be dialing out using the above items with Magic Jack.
TIA

The best we can tell you is that some people have had success using MJ for their satellite box/dvr device. It's best if you can set the modem speed to the lowest possible. Most modems should auto-negotiate down to the optimal speed, but I can't speak for the specific device you mention. You could consult Dish Network customer service to ask about speed settings.
Personally, I say TRY IT! If it doesn't work, MJ only costs 40 bucks, so it's not a big loss. Plus, you could always use Magic Jack for making calls at home, or during travel. You could give it away as a gift. You could always return it!
Go for it! Let us know how it goes.
Edit: I realized that perhaps you already have a Magic Jack, and are contemplating getting satellite. In that case, I would certainly try calling Dish customer service and ask about the modem settings. If it will go down to 9600 or lower, then it should work.
