Is that the only way the unit will update itself?

How often should you do it.

What about shutting MJ down with the Task Manager (Ctrl/Alt/Delete) and then restarting it with the Desktop icon?

In these times of constant problems and fixes, I'd do it at least once a week.
(But I only turn my MJ on when I want to use it, so effectively I do it daily).
