problems with 800 numbers
I have been experiencing a lot of difficulties calling toll free ( 800, 888 etc) numbers. I can hear the other party loud and clear, but they cannot hear me. I do not get it. Those are often lenghty calls to banks, credit cards, customer "service" departments and one would think that MJ cared- those are the calls they make some real money on. Unlike with other MJ connection problems which are largely caused by my often miserable 48 $.-/month super ultra DSL from ATT, the problem is not my internet line. Go figure.

MJ has a history of not playing well with 800#'s. When I first got mine in early 2008, some numbers would not go through at all until Stewart came up with a work around using the * key. (See Sticky Canada and other stupid magic tricks) Don't know what it would matter whether the number was an 800# number or something else. But then there are lots of things I don't know.
As to whether or not MJ cares, I've come to the conclusion there's very little Dan cares about other than signing on more users.

Thanks, unfortunately it looks like that the MJ upgrades eliminated those possibilities. Maybe it still works for those folks who use ATA, I cannot tell.
His strategy works, I know more people who dumped the device than those who use it, so he is pocketing quite some money. Myself sticking to it, you cannot beat the price. As to whether or not MJ cares, I've come to the conclusion there's very little Dan cares about other than signing on more users.
Call Quality
I was having this same problem for a while. I then found out that I get this only when I also had some applications running that were uploading a lot of data from the same computer that is running the magicjack process. My workaround is to pause the upload during the call and the quality goes back to normal.

Re: Call Quality
So you were only uploading while calling 800 numbers, making your 800 number calls of poor quality, (which is the topic of this thread)?Turakz wrote:I was having this same problem for a while. I only use my MJ for calling 800 type numbers (toll free, conference calls, etc) so that's my only basis for comparison here. For all other calls I just use my cell (most people I call are on the same network as me).

Fair enough, but I doubt that the OP has the same unique calling habits, particularly since he specifies the problem occurs only with 800 numbers.
Not running any applications which consume bandwith and/or processor capacity while using MJ belongs to the ABC of a satisfactory MJ use. Even if you talk to someone and have to open a web page or a new e-mail you learn it to "incorporate" it into your conversation in such a way the call quality does not suffer. My workaround is to pause the upload during the call and the quality goes back to normal.
My 800 problem has nothing to do with this.
