How do you disable call waiting?

Post by jbond »

I need to have my call waiting disabled for work. I can do it on a per call basis but I can't find out how to do it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen

I don't think the ability to disable call waiting is part of the magicJack product offering. If I am mistaken, somebody please correct me and advise how to enable/disable it.

When the prototype for the Magicfeatures plugin was designed, that feature was actually available. The ability to turn on and off call waiting. It was removed from the plugin feature options before release for simplicity as it was thought it was sort of extraneous (i.e. because everybody wants call waiting on anyway, right ???).

It would be pretty simple to make the call waiting enable/disable feature available again since the capability is actually internally still there in the plugin. If you disable call waiting, incoming calls will be sent to voice mail when you are on the phone. The caller id name + number can optionally be sent to your phone before the call is sent to voice mail.

If you still need the feature and buy the plugin, let me know and I will make sure the call waiting enable/disable feature is included in the next plugin release due out within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for letting me know. I really need a busy signal when people call me when I am on the phone. I am not sure if that can be done or not. Let me know.

In the scenario described above calls received while you are on the phone would go to voice mail.

There is an alternative solution that will do what you are describing you need and give callers a busy tone and it is available now:

1. Download and install the Skyjack Plugin and sign up for a Skype account AND an incoming phone number from Skype.

2. Log into your magicJack account and forward all calls to the incoming phone number you obtained from Skype.

3. For incoming calls just answer the phone when it rings. If you are on the phone when an incoming call arrives, callers will receive a busy tone and you will NOT get a call waiting tone.

4. For outgoing calls you will use the magicJack network. If you are not able to get through for whatever reason, you can use the Skype network as a backup provider. Just dial "*" followed by the number you wish to call to place your call via the Skype network.

Solution "UPSIDES": You will ALSO be able to receive calls from customers using Skype. You will also have a backup provider to use to place calls by simply dialing "*" followed by the number you wish to call.

Solution "DOWNSIDES": As incoming calls are forwarded from the magicJack network to the Skype network and then to your phone, the caller's number may (OR MAY NOT) get passed through and displayed on your phone. Alternatively, you can give your customers your new Skype number to call and the caller's number will be displayed.
