MJ and Google voice - both get a voice mail when called?

Post by jbrams »

I have my google voice setup to forward calls to my magicjack. Googlevoice voicemail picks up before MagicJack ... but whenever someone leaves a voicemail on googlevoice (or just makes it to GV voicemail) I ALSO get a MagicJack voicemail message.

The magicjack message is a brief announcement asking me to "press one to [somthing] or press 2 [to do something else]"

Any way to stop this behavior short of an additional, not-free, program like Magicbeans or similar which adds rings to MJ which prevents it from picking up voicemail before google voice?

It's odd that both go to voicemail (though the caller is sent to google voice), right?

At this time that may not be possible. MJ recently stopped the softphone hack that allowed us to transfer calls. There are directions in the forum somewhere for disableing voicemail that involve editing your registry and if your not good at that type of stuff I would recommend against that. I can say that magicbeans works and does what your looking for. Another option that also works is getting the xlite plugin for about $7 and set that up to work with MJ and google voice.

I tried the "big.skn" deletion method then then saw that it was recently blocked by an update. I'll try the registry mod next (no problem with futzing around with reg values). http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/gett ... t8200.html

If that doesn't work, then I suppose my only option would be one of the plug-ins.

I hadn't heard of xlite - any more details, reviews, or comparisons to others?
