How do I register and activate a 'My MagicJack' account?

Post by Jess Wunman »

When I plugged my new MagicJack into my computer, it automatically started-up and supplied a phone number, and seems to be working fine. However, it NEVER prompted me to establish an account. Now, I can't figure out how to do so. I tried submitting my phone number to generate a "forgot password" e-mail message. It indicates that the message was sent, but none is received. (Doesn't surprise me since I never submitted one.) I'm surprised that the device works apart from registering. At this point, how do I register?

I suspect you received a returned unit. Where did you buy it? Did the packaging look sealed?

Returned Unit

I bought it at a Kmart store. It seemed to be sealed. (Had to cut it out of the monster plastic packaging.)

Strange. I'm at a loss to explain it. You should contact chat support, and ask how long you have left on your subscription. Then hit them with your story.

I doubt you'll get any remedy from them; you'll probably have to return the item to Kmart. However, if you find your remaining subscription is significantly less than a year, then you'll know that your MJ is a repackaged return.

Please keep us posted!

NbtW, you were absolutely correct in all regards! The MagicJack technician was nearly useless. After wasting a lot of time, he finally checked to see if my unit was registered to someone else... and it WAS! I was then instructed to take up the issue with the retailer. When I re-examined the packaging more closely, I discovered a small area on one corner where the plastic seam had been breached, and then taped with magic tape. (missed this upon first inspection.) The retailer offered no resistance when I returned it, and let me select a new one, which seems to be working fine. Thanks again for an accurate diagnosis, and good advice!
