Takes a long time to pick up a call

Hi- I love the quality so far, but when someone calls me, I pick up the phone and there is a long, long (like 7-10 second) pause before I can hear them and speak to them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have any processes you can live without. It sounds like your MJ is competing for resources of your computer. In task manager look and see how many processes you have running then under performance look at the graphs and see how your system is doing. A powered usb hub may help but if your calls sound fine already it may not do much.

I usually have to count to 3 or so before I start speaking. I've deleted some process hogs on the spare laptop I'm using, but it's a good idea to check for more possible deletions. Good advice sabresfan.

I'm running MJ, xlite, with the magicfeatures and xlite plugins on an old compaq laptop with 128mb of ram and everything works great. Play around with the processes and see what you don't need. I'm down to about 16 processes and that gets me right to about 128mb. I looked into upgrading the ram awhile back and besybuy doesn't even carry it anymore. I looked around and the best I can even upgrade to is 256mb of ram. I'm happy with this setup for now but a pap2 setup is next.

What's the best way to turn off processes? Uninstall programs? I'm not sure which processes I can stop with the task manager, without causing computer issues. Thanks for your advice!

Stop any programs you may have running like surfing the web or music downloads etc. When your in task manager under processes right click on a process and one of the options is to end process this is how you end it. If this is gonna be a dedicated MJ computer you can look into turning off anti virus( if you feel comfortable with it) and other processes. The worst that's gonna happen is you will need to reboot and your back in business again like before. Make sure your not doing anything important while killing processes. I have had to turn off everything I can which has included explorer.exe process to get this to work on this old machine. Note when you kill this process you will not be able to do anything else other than bring up task manager control, alt, delete at the same time. If you have a decent amount of ram this will not be necessary but getting MJ the room it needs to work is one of the major problems people seem to have when they say MJ sucks. MJ sucked big time when I first got it and used it on our desktop which had 256mb of ram and 40 plus processes running. I upgraded the ram and cleaned up our desktop and we can do more things with it now than ever before. If you need more info on specific processes just google them and you should be able to get a ton of info.
