I haven't tried it but the following might work.windpiper wrote:Can someone tell me if you can disable autorun were it don't startup at bootup from computer to computer ? By default, Windows autoplays many types of USB devices. You can turn off autoplay in Windows XP by clicking Start and Run. In the Run field type in "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes). On the Group Policy screen, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates. Click System. Double-click Turn off Autoplay. On the Setting tab, select Disabled and click OK.
Of coarse this would turn off autoplay for all devices.

If a solution is found - I'd be interested. I don't mind MJ booting, but the image display that is always on top effectively stopping the use of all other apps on the computer for a minute is very irritating - I just unplug the darn thing before startup and plug it in when I need it, but there should be a better way.
There is a better way.
I'll admit, the first couple of times I saw the "splash screen" saying something like "Magic Jack - a minute of waiting, a lifetime of savings" I thought it was cute. But that got old fast.
You can create a shortcut which bypasses the splash screen. The executive line is something like this:
"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack"
where username is the account that runs the Magic Jack software and F: is the drive that Magic Jack is running on. My Magic Jack actually takes up the F: and G: drives, but I found I had to use F: to get this to work.
You'll want to disable Magic Jack at startup then start this shortcut manually. Or you can even put the shortcut into a startup folder if you're still using the old Microsoft Office startup programs (the old way of getting programs to start upon boot - I guess I'm a bit old school!). Or alternatively, you can just run Magic Jack as a service, completely in the background - that's my favorite solution so far. I'm actually toying with the HP Thin Client or the ATA route, but I don't think the latter is sanctioned by Magic Jack (not sure about the former), and I've spent so much time getting Magic Jack configured on my PC that I just want to spend some time enjoying it for a while - haha!
I hope this helps.

To disable the MagicJack software/service at startup, go into Start / Run and type msconfig. On the Startup tab, there will be either one or two checkboxes called "cdloader2." Uncheck the box(es).
Reboot your machine, and you'll see a popup about some configuaration changing. Put a check in the box saying something like "never show this again" and click OK. That should do it. Magic Jack should never start automatically again.

msconfig startup
Whenever I disable the cdloader2.exe file in msconfig it enables itself the next time Magic Jack is manually opened. I have even deleted the cdloader2.exe file in the mjusbsp folder and it makes a new one. I have also deleted it in the registry and it creates another entry. Can't get rid of this startup bully.

What action did you take to manually boot? If you're running one of the loader or setup programs, perhaps that's causing the unwanted reinstall. Make a shortcut to magicjack.exe with a command line that looks like:Jim Chagares wrote:Manually boot Magic Jack and the 0kb read-only file returns to the original 50 kb file and the check mark resets itself in msconfig.
Code: Select all
"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "G:\magicJack"

i was using the magicjack.exe manual load successfully, until i rec'd a new model mj. i find that it starts itself after coming out of standby, so: when system boots it uses the manual method (good), then i have to close program on mj to go into standby. when coming out of standby mj auto starts itself without me using the manual method (bad). i may go back to the old mj since they insist on disabling the use of standby while mj is running. i haven't seen any benefit to the newer mj.
THANK YOU
