Anyone want to help me out?

I'm ordering a magic jack and hope to use it in Kingston, Ontario.

They have our AREA code, but I didn't think to check our local exchanges.

The local exchange numbers are:

It looks like you're in luck. Iristel has the 777 exchange http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_pr ... &region=ON and I believe they are the ones who supply all of the area codes for magicJack in Canada.

To check for local exchanges in your area code, click the "154E" next to your area code on the left side of the chart.

While you're on Exchanges. What's up with having to dial the area code, from a land line within that area code, in order for the call to go through to your MJ ? This also plagues some prepaid cellphones and some Google Voice #s An Example is 757 Area Code with 752 Exchange.

ALL MJ accounts require dialing full 10 digit area code. I think there is some mention within these fora about a utility package that may eliminate this requirement and give some other benefits. You may want to run a search on 7 digit or such term. You will be rewarded for sharpening your boolean logic skills!!!

I'm using the "New & Improved" multivariate logic. Virginia Beach area has only one Area Code unlike other larger metro areas.
My MJ(and several others with several different Exchanges ,e.g. 454) with 757 Area Code and 818 Exchange can be dialed from other local phones in 7 digits (without area code and that's "out-of-the-box with no mods) whereas one with 757 Area Code and 752 as an Exchange requires dialing the 10 digits.
Just wondering what's up with that ? And, is the utility package, you mention, easy to do and worth it ?

Just so I make sure I understand what you've written, let me re-phrase what you've written, from the passive voice "My MJ ... can be dialed" to active voice: "I can dial my MJ number with just 7 digits".

The ability to dial with 7 digits rests with the phone company handling the outgoing call. On the other hand, if you were to call in the other direction, you'd normally need to dial 10 digits, unless you were using some other add-on dialer software.

Yes clarity and precision are important, even to the point of English Literalism. We are speaking here of placing out-going calls from a landline, which are incoming to MJ.
I should have stated "Incoming" calls to certain MJ,s and other numbers, which have, for example, Area Code 757 and Exchange 752 require "dialing" their full 10 digits even from within the same Area Code when using a landline.
In contrast, I can dial to MJs with the same 757 Area Code but with different Exchanges, for example 454 or 818 using only 7 digits. Why the difference ?

Interesting re: 7 and 10 digit dialing. In any case, the phone company is handling the outgoing call and the ability to dial with 7 or 10 digits is independent of your MJ device or number. Perhaps ask your landline/cess phone company why you can dial certain exchanges with 7 digits and others with 10.

The phone companies are running out of numbers. plain and simple, there are (mathematical experts help here) so many more numbers if you use the area code. In Oregon the phone companies went to 10 digit dialing years ago. I realize there is a burden to dialing three (3) more numbers however once you start, it is pretty easy.

most major cities in Canada are all 10 digits now, but if you like using the 7, just get and install magicfeatures...7 digit calling is one of the options within the same area codes
