Contacts not downloaded w/ flash drives dismounted

Post by Karl Poehlmann »

One of two MJs failed to download contacts and the standard fix fixed it. But a few weeks later the problem re-occurred and the standard update failed to fix it.

New MJ software suffer from the I and J drives going to having no media mounted when the MJ keypad exe is started.

I can see the media in explorer windows before the MJ exe is started when autoplay window is shown.

Contacts list fails to be updated/downloaded. Calls are dis-functional too.

I saved the contacts list before the I drive was reformatted.

I have made seven sessions with MJ support and at about session 5 they had me format the I drive (Phones) which had the MagicJack folder.

They had me restore the MJ software after formatting the I drive at the wrong point when the drives were not accessible. And I lost the contacts file on the flash drive.

I believe that Autoplay window hold point would be the time to run a software update. I restored the contacts file from the saved file at the AutoPlay point. I restored the MJ files from a second working MJ unit at the AutoPlay point. This still did not fix the problem.

When I run a fix or download or update on the OS after starting the keypad exe the I&J drives go to media dismounted so updates have nowhere to go.

Update: How this was fixed:
MJ Support reviewed their data base.

I had changed my email addresses and had at one time also changed the phone number assigned to the unit.

They fixed the server side miss matches and I sent them a copy of the contacts file that I had saved. A few days later the failing MJ started working for both calls and contacts.

One Objectionable "Feature" remains:
When the MJ dongle is installed and the Keypad Exe is running,
driver for my other flash drive used for importing photos show the
photo flash drive as dismounted.

The work around is to unplug the MJ when I need to use the Photo Flash
drive and reboot the system.

I believe MJ should fix their drivers so that they do not clobber the functionality of other vendors' flash drives.
