Far end hears music then call drops

Post by wormhole7 »

I have had quite a few occurances of the following:

On a call for about 5 to 10 minutes, then the far end hears music, then the call drops.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so is there a fix for it?

Sounds as if your MJ is putting whomever you called on hold. Others on here have had that problem as well. I think a POWERED USB has help some in that situation.
I suggest you do a search of this forum for hold or the like to get some input.

Joe is correct that a powered USB hub can help.

I experienced the same (background music/voices/dropped calls) on my end of the call or vice versa.

The easiest thing to try is moving your telephones base station farther away from your computer. Next is to make sure you are not using the short USB cable that came with the MJ. In regards to using a powered hub (gets power from wall outlet), make sure the hub is attached to a rear USB 2.0 jack (again, no short USB cable).

Some phone systems (2.4GHz and even my newer 5.8GHz) are prone to picking up radio interference if they are too close to a computer. I ended up using a 20' phone cable from the MJ to my base station (noticed even more improvement vs. using the standard 6').

Since making the above changes, call quality has improved considerably and most notably, not a single dropped call.

Hope this helps!
