I would like to use the ATA instead of the magicjack/pc running 24/7. While I am very computer literate, I am just learning about the voip. Amazon has the following three and I don't know which one to get. I am assuming the phone adapter is the same thing as voice gateway. Any suggestions so I can research further. I am also willing to look at other manufacturers, but it seems linksys is most popular
Cisco Internet Phone Adapter with 2 Ports for Voice-over-IP PAP2T-NA - VoIP phone adapter
Cisco SPA2102 VoIP Phone Adapter with Router
Cisco SPA3102 Voice Gateway with Router
Do I need any other equipment?
Also is there a problem with using the ata. I read on some posts about it not working now.
Thanks
Tom

Search for discussions about using MJ on an ATA. You'll need to keep a PC running to provide a proxy. So I'm not sure you'll achieve what you want which is to not run a PC 24 hours per day. See this discussion for more info http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/how- ... t7593.html
As for the 3 units, I have experience with only the SP2102, and not the others. With the SP2102 you can have 2 separate voip lines and the device also acts as a router or pass-through of Internet (with one port).
As for reliability, I have 2 SP2102s. One is on 24 hours per day for a year and is running without issue. The second is in my travel kit and I use it infrequently--but it always works when I pull it out.
If you buy one on ebay, make sure it comes with the AC power adapter.
I can't comment on the other 2 models you are looking at, but maybe see if they can beat the SP2102 for features.
PS. I'm using a subscription based voip service, not MJ on the ATAs.
I do have a wrt54gs router running tomato. I can use that for MJMD5. The router is in the closet collecting dust because I have att uverse and did not have a need for it. That would solve the pc issue. Now I just need to know which ata.
Also since the wrt54gs is wireless, can I have the ata and wrt54gs upstairs and connect wireless to the att router downstairs using the phone (ie how would the quality be if signal strength is very good.
Thanks

I would heartily agree with this recommendation! I've had MJ since July 2007 but when MJ made it difficult to run an ATA and the sound was so garbled as to be useless I put it in the drawer. When the TK6000 from netTalk showed up I got one and it has been a keeper. Clear communications and no PC needed.voipmailme wrote:you may want to check TK6000 from nettalk ..... http://www.nettalk.com/
Just my never humble opinion...
