expired, yet still working

Post by completetech »

So I was reading over the auto renew post and thought that I should login and check out my magic jack settings. however I logged in and it shows that in early to mid April of this year it expired and is set to auto renew.

I am running my MJ on Asterisk from mid-late last year when the chan_sip patch was put out.

crazy stuff.

I make a lot of calls on it and am not sure what to do. My ethics and morals say I need pay and renew it. however at the same time I am a little bit nervous that if I do it will not work then.

anyone else come across this?

BTW... the MJ has not been plugged into a PC since about late august or early September of 2009

Happens all the time, the longest that i have had one last after contract was 6 months. I think its a way for them to keep their "numbers" up. If you like the service you should pay worst that will happen is that your password will change but that can be pulled easy. Im a firm believer in "do what your conscience can handle" So you could keep using it till it stops working then renew of just shell out the 20 bucks. Let us know how it goes.

One does risk this happening if you wait to renew. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r241499 ... of-service

I agree. I renewed a week after my service expired and it was back dated to the expiration date in spite of the fact that I didn't have service for that week.

Yep, so what is the point in using it for 6 months for "free" after it expires and then you renew and now find you only have 6 months left.
2+2 STILL = 4..

I guess anything is possible when it comes to Dan.
I do know if you renew EARLY your experation date is still the orig date of experation ( 1 yr later of course) so it guess it makes sense if you renew after it expires it is still the orig date of experation ( again, 1 yr later).
I have never let mine lapse so I can not say for sure if this is new or not. Maybe one of the other MJ old timers can shed light on this.

I can understand majicJacks policy on the service renewals but I believe that since they did publicize this policy they should grandfather all users before the change. I have several magicJacks that I am currently not using that will become worthless as they approach the year the anniversary mark of the service being dormant.

1 Year service being dormant at $20.00
1 Year new service renewal at $20.00
=Buy a new $40.00 USB magicJack dongle if you don't care about loosing your phone number!
