Help!

My computer's sound card quit working. I was thinking of getting an external sound card instead of replacing the entire motherboard since that would cost too much. Does anyone know if I'd be able to use the MJ with a USB sound card? And any suggestions which one to buy?

Why not just use a phone? If you have to use a headset, get a cordless phone with a headset jack.

I guess I should have mentioned that I do use the MJ with a phone. The problem is that I can hear a dialtone, but I can't get any audio when I get an incoming call or I when I call out to someone.

The dialtone is generated by the magicJack USB dongle hardware itself BUT the remaining audio is channeled/managed by the audio device drivers associated with the magicJack USB dongle.

When using a phone, the magicJack dialer tries to direct the audio to the device called "USB Audio Device" or "USB Internet Phone by Tigerjet". One of the latter is the audio device name the magicJack USB dongle should register with on your computer when it is plugged in.

The audio device drivers for your magicJack did not install properly and/or there is some type of conflict with another USB device on your computer.

You can try the following to try to remove the conflict and get the device drivers to load properly:

1. For the purposes of troubleshooting unplug any and all USB devices on your computer including your magicJack USB dongle. Do NOT replug your other USB devices until you get your magicJack USB dongle working in case one of them is causing a conflict of some kind with the magicJack USB dongle installing properly on your computer.

2. Plug in only the magicJack USB dongle directly into a USB port on your computer that you are 100% sure you have not plugged it into before and let the device drivers freshly install for that USB port.

3. Try your calls again. If it is still not working, go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers. Select the entry that says "USB Audio Device" or "USB Internet Phone by TigerJet" and then press the DELETE key and approve the deletion if Windows asked your approval. After it is deleted unplug your magicJack USB dongle for 10 seconds and then plug it back in again so it can re-load the audio driver(s).

4. Try your calls again. If it is still not working, it is likely that there are tentatively some other root level software or hardware problems on your computer related to the audio system on your computer.

5. If you do get it working, plug any other USB devices you have back in one by one and then re-test your calls after each one just to make sure one of them was not causing a naming conflict. If it stops working after you plug in one of them, you know that device is causing a conflict of some kind.

I hope you are able to sort out the issue.

My MJ machine never had a sound card and works great on a regular phone.

Uninstall the sound card driver for the failed device (Reboot).

Reinstall the MagicJack Device in another USB port if possible.:)

Having had sound issues often at the beginning two years ago, I updated the drivers from the TigerJet site.
This has almost eliminated all issues, other than the stuttering that always happens following a virus scan. Restart MJ and all's well for a couple of days. Rinse and Repeat
