New MJ - Got Problems - Help

Post by QuiGonJohn »

Got my MJ today. Not very happy. Like some others, installed, have dial-tone, but can’t dial. I get an Error 3, but can’t find anything on their website to tell me what that is, or how to fix it. Tried to call the 888 number which came up during install, it doesn’t ring or give a busy tone or anything, just dead-air. Tried Tech Chat, that was useless too. On top of all that, the Area Code list they have on their website shows my local area code as ACTIVE, 954. But when I installed the MJ, guess what, that was not an area code I could select. Will probably return it before the trial is over, unless they help or I can get it working to call out and receive calls. Anyone know anything about this problem?

I think MJ is having problems today. Earlier, I couldn't make any calls at all. Now, when I make a call and the other party answers, I get a recording saying "sorry, your call did not go through". When I receive a call, the caller can't hear me and I can't hear the caller.

I chatted with someone at MJ and they did some test calls and it worked when they called me. However, when anyone else tries to call me I have the same issue. I was told earlier that MJ was performing an upgrade today but don't know how long it will take for this to be resolved. I guess you get what you pay for.

I know what you mean about the 954 are code. I live in the 954 area code and when I tried to change from my 510 area code (which I had when I first got MJ) it was not active. But at according to MJ's website it's active. I argued about it in their tech chat room and all they could say to check back soon. What I did was I got a 305 area code and they didn't charge me the $10 to have it changed.

Yes, MJ has been having some problems the past few days. I've heard that they are doing some upgrades. Just be patient. It will be worth the wait. I live in Broward County, Florida and I have made calls to Hawaii, Alaska, MASS, California, Texas, Chicago and even the Philippines. Of course I had to prepay for the international calls, but all those calls, nation wide and international have sounded very clear, clearer than my Voange line. I am very happy with my MJ and the little money that it cost me has paid itself off. Give it some time and you'll see that you'll be happy that you did.

Magnum, I used 561 when I signed up, otherwise same as you. But it really irks me that the AC List on their site says it's ACTIVE. I'm also upset seeing people have a hard time getting an RMA for this. Now, if my problems can't be resolved, I have that additional hurdle to face.

Is there a list of error codes? I couldn't find one on MJ's site or on this forum or with a Google Search. Does anyone know what Error Code 3 is?

Also, would MJ have installed a process called UTSCSI? I noticed it running after I installed my MJ. But it may have gotten there some other way as I had it show up once before I ever got MJ. I just deleted the file and the REG Entry and it was gone until I noticed it again, after installing my MJ last night.

Got it working, no thanks to tech support.

I did a System Restore prior to when I installed it and manually removed the .magicfix folder left in my profile. Then I installed it again, this time plugged into a USB port on my AC-powered hub. First install failed, it went thru MagicFix, still no go. Then I clicked the upgrade, where it said, if still not fixed, click here. Still nothing. Then I disconnected it, waited a minute, connected again. This gave the error with the 888-230-0060 Tech Support line, which does not ring or busy or anything. Then I clicked retry and it said "Lucky You, Upgrading". Now it works. I even removed the port forwarding entries I put in my router, still works.

Now just this Area Code issue. They shouldn't show an Area Code as Active if it's not gonna come up when you install.

Also, after getting it working I removed the 2 Port Entries I put into my Firewall and my Router, still works. So they were never the problem.

Does anyone know how I can configure Comodo Personal Firewall not to ask about the MagicJack applications everytime I connect my MagicJack? I tried setting all programs to "Trusted Application", but it still asks.

My MagicJack FRIED 2 ports on my USB Hub, one last night and now one today. Also the MagicJack died, no blue light anymore. When this last incident happened I was on a call, then the call dropped, MJ had no blue light and a burnt electronic smell from it.

Has anyone seen this happen? Did I just get a dud to begin with? It seems like it, as I first had a lot of install trouble and now this.

Ugh!

Yes, and MJ runs fine without it!

UTSCSI process has been discussed before. Based on the net info, it seems this process allows MJ software to be installed to the system when logged in user has limited admin privilege (limited user, guest account). So if your logged in account has admin privilege then UTSCSI process is not needed thus could be deleted or disabled in system services.

Yes, thanks. Anything on my other issue, with it frying USB Ports. I originally installed direct into computer, that would not work. The instructions tell you if all attempts at a direct USB connection fail, try one on an AC-powered USB Hub, which mine is. As I said, that let it work, but then later the port fried and the next day another port fried and now my MJ is dead too!

UPDATE

Post by QuiGonJohn »

After emailing Dan and Richard, they came by my house and gave me 2 MagicJacks and picked up the one that was fried. I live in the general area of where they are based. So even though I still have to buy a new USB Hub, I don't have to buy a second MagicJack, which I was planning on when my daughter goes off to college soon.
