mj is a bust

Post by cheapman »

the mj works but it is the worst phone service i have ever had...it can never be a primary #....what good is a phone if you cant understand the call at all...and it is down alot, the caller id only works on the computer, hardly any local # at all....if they have you local # it might be worth it otherwise wait until they have worked out all the kinks and have your local # before buying

So you have problems, oh well, I like my MJ so far.

Now, to start warning people about MJ or giving advise, because you personally had bad experience thus far ??

Hmm, sounds suspicious to me. I would chalk that up as bad advise.
Have you done any other reviews, or talked to others about their problems, and have you talked to others about their successes and pros and cons etc ?? And what internet service and upload/download speeds they have. I'ts possible also that it's simply the IP provider you use is slower then you think or bogged down with lots of users.

My guess is you probably did no research at all and only base this on your personal observation. If someone has a bad experience they can't assume that this means that the service does not work at all for anyone.

I got a bad apple from safeway once does that mean now that I have the right to advise people that safeway is no good and stay away as far as you can.
No, but with that attitude it sounds more like safeway should want to stay away from a customer like this and don't do business with them, because he is a problem customer.

Sorry it's not working, but it is an IP phone and I'm enjoying mine so far and will continue to test it out over then next week, and most likely will cancel my other phone service and use this as my sole phone service.
But only after further review.

Anyhow thats all I know.

NO it's not a bust it work great ?
Well I can't really say that without other review, but it might be a bust for you, but it would have been nice to see what bandwidth your internet service has, and what type of internet service you have and what type of computer etc. before making this statement.
It would be nice to compare those who are having problems with those who are not having problems and see what are some of the similarities with those who are not with those who are.

I'm by no means defending MJ if the service is bad but I have to try thing out for myself and I could advise that others do the same.
I'm not having any problem thus far that I know of but I also have cable high speed business class.

I'm running my own server with gateway and webmail etc. and the MJ is behind the server on the local side and behind a router. The server is giving out all the IP addresses and acting as DHCP

MJ installation went simple enough I filled out the registration and made some test calls just like the instruction says in the package.

Test calls were very clear according to the recipient, and one person did indicate that the volume was low on one of the calls. but I can live with that or perhaps I can tweak something to make the volume a little louder if it was indeed a MJ topic. I't could also be the volume on the recipients phone that needs turning up.

I'll test some more, but it appears to work well thus far.

Yeah it's down once in a while but I also have gizmo, GC, and my cell as backup.
There have been times where the quality sucks but it wasn't MJ's fault. Either myself or my housemate was hogging bandwidth with torrents, so I just had to tweak my routers QOS settings.
It's a lot better than I was expecting when I got it initially.

I think when MJ works out all the bugs its gonna be great. Any new product is gonna have kinks. MJ had my local area code so I guess I was lucky.

Just look at MS Windows history. It started out a very buggy product (still is) crashing all the times. It's getting much better, less crashes starting with WinNT, Win2000, XP. MagicJack is very new, still very buggy and it's expected  8)

their ordering website is screwed up. They screwed up my address on the confirmation page but I got it corrected using the live chat. I ordered it last Thursday and got it on Monday. I paid the $3.95 for rush shipping.

I got my MJ in just over a week, got it hooked up in short order and was off to the races. I live deep rural, get my internet over a WISP and am totally blown away by the quality and ease of use. Had a question for tech, got through to chat in short order, got it sorted and all is right with the world.... well, at least with MJ for me. The only downside to my situation is that my AC I use is backwoods enough that I had to opt into the next AC over from mine but Oh, well... I can live with that just fine thanks. So for those reading the forums and wondering if it is all downside all I can say is, my service rocks. Occasionally the calls are a little twitchy but no doubt that is related to bandwidth availability and doesn't seem to be anything inherent in MJ. Regards to all. - Mark -

A friend of mine, to whom I recommended the MJ, bought one and got it in a couple of days here in So Cal. Although I strongly suggested paying for the expedited shipping, nobody listens to me, so I was rather surprised to learn he received it in such a short time.

He plugged it in yesterday and called me after I badgered him all morning to get it installed to test it. Worked great! He called me on my cell phone and again later on my MJ number and the call quality was excellent on both devices. I only post this because I think it shows there are lots of different experiences with the MJ.

If you get something that works... great! But if you get a lemon, it doesn't matter how many other happy customers there are, if'n you ain't one of 'em.

EVERYTHING FAILS

Post by yodar »

I have NO phjone number, I cannot log on
username or password is incorrect even tho I cut and pasted the one they sent me. I HAVE no phone number

there are TWO instances of Magicjack on my computer when it it plugged in
G drive and L drive

EVERY time in boot up with magicjack plugged in a NEW install occurs which takes 10-15 minutes because my computer's security system has to make a new startup point. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

During the install MXTask background services CRASHES, then my firewall crashes
THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

Then when magicjack program starts, my Avanquest/SystemSuite 8 firewall CRASHES, I LOSE MY FIREWALL FUNCTION AND I AM OFF LINE.THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

My Firewall IS AN EXPENSIVE AND EFFECTIVE SYSTEM PROTECTOR THAT I DONT WANT TO SURRENDER TO MAKE YOUR PRODUCT WORK.

STARTING Please wait then NOTHING HAPPENS.It NEVER STARTS

Your suggestions on Java updating were indeed correct. Latest version installed today

MY System (XP) still doesnt LIKE magicjack. I have been trying for a week to get this to work and I cant even log in to your website, it says my username is incorrect

I am going to hafta go to LINUX Ubuntu to contact your system helper dialog

You would sell MORE of these if you were Linux capable

I am a PLATINUM customer order no. DT001894** where do I use THIS?

Platinum Claimm Ciode HHEQGY3Y** where do I use THIS?

Your probably right, but I never had any programs that really worked well with firewalls running,.
I hate to say it's the firewall most likely that is the problem and not the MJ.
Unfortuanately most devices and even services don't even tell you all the info you need to make it work with the firewall activated. Also if you have more then 1 firewall running, then this creates even more problems.
, and it's very complicated to open ports and etc. and administrate these permissions and more.At least for me it is.
I hate firewalls and I hate windows, but I must say every computer I plugged in my MJ that was running just the simple OS,virus protection, office stuff worked perfectly.
It's not really a problem but firewalls usually need to be tweeked all the time for just about every new things you do on the net. I don't know why but I have people here always saying they can play this game or that game, over the net, but not intel games, and they can't figure it out to this day.
But they can play all other games, so the question is ? is it the game, or the firewall, or the ports that are blocked in the router, and all this complicated crap that most people don't want to play with. ??

Sorry your having problems with it thru a firewall, I wish I could provide a better answer then to say just turn off the firewall, but thats what I would do.
It does most likely work without a firewall, or perhaps with some teakage of your firewall program, but even instant messengers require some tweeks to the firewall if it's something that the firewall doesn't like. Not all IM's but some
Well thats all I know.
