unregistering a device

Post by krystav »

My original magicjack died. I purchased a new one and plugged it in. Followed the prompts and signed into my account. Yet, device was still assigned a new phone number. Now the lovely folks at magicjack say they cannot transfer my old number to the new device because it has been registered, and that I must purchase a new unregistered 3rd device if I want to use the remainder of our prepaid 5 year service.
So does anyone know a trick to unregister the 2nd magic jack?

Why worry about it. Just return the 2nd device back to where you brought it and get a credit toward the purchase of a new (third ) device. Then call MJ before registering the new one. You could have gotten your MJ SIP credential before it died and use on an ATA and you wouldn't have to worry about the MJ dongle dieing or running a PC 24/7 or having to change numbers, etc. Something to think about going forward!
