MJ Puts Callers on Hold Repeatedly

Post by Robyn »

This was happening a week or two ago far a couple of days. Someone would call, then I'd hear a little static, then nothing. The caller reported hearing music. I checked around and found that this was apparently a new hold feature gone haywire. OK fine.

So it's been fine up 'til today. My husband just called and we couldn't talk for more than 15 seconds or so without it cutting out. And it won't come off hold, either. I have to hang up and he has to call me again. After the 4th time we gave up. So apparently my phone is unusable. Can anyone offer any help or advice? I really need my phone...

Personally I would try another USB port, in the rear if possible. AND if you are using the extension cord which came with the MJ, DON'T, it causes all kinds of problems ( including what is happening to you). IF that doesnt work I would suggest getting a POWERED USB hub, has to be a powered one.

Hi Joe, thanks for the fast reply. I probably should have mentioned that I've been using MJ for almost 2 years now, with no problems, and I haven't changed my setup. I use the short extension it came with, because I don't have the clearance to plug in directly. It's never been a problem...

TRUST ME the extension cord goes bad for no reason. I have helped at least 3 people here whose extension cords just went bad after using the MJ for a yr or more.
TRY IT without the cord and see...At the very least reseat the MJ and the cord to each other and the USB port as well as the phone to the MJ. It can make a difference.
I had the same problem finding room for the MJ to fit, which is why I went with a POWERED USB hub, this one: http://www.windmilltrading.com/USBProds ... 4U2ABK.htm
I have had ZERO issues for 2 years now...

Let me know and please just give it a try without the cord, even if you HAVE to use a front USB port, though it is not the best option as the rear ports are better for the MJ as they are connected directly to the MB and not via an internal extension.

So does MJ itself. I never had any problems with those extension cords. I use them because a few times a week, the USB port does not recognise the device and I have to unplug it for a second and then plug it back. I prefere the wear and tear on a cheap extension cord rather then on the USB port of my expensive laptop.

Do you realize MJ actually recommends on their web page that one does unplug and replug the MJ into the USB port several times a month? I am not sure of the exact amount. In the 2 years I have had mine I would say I have had to do that once a month. Not exactly a hassle.
Her problem has been caused by a flaky extension cord... As I said at least 3 people here have had that problem fixed by removing that cord..
Is it always casued by the cord?? Hell no, but how hard it is to try not using it and see.

Maybe your USB port doesn't recognize the MJ so often because of the extension cord. You might be surprised if you pulled the cord and plugged your MJ directly into your USB slot. The USB ports on your laptop were made for plugging/unplugging devices many times over. I've never had one "wear out" yet in all the years I've been using them. Just a thought.

I do not want to discount your suggestion, but I feel that in my case there is more into it. Way back, it used to be a real problem, I had to plug and unplug after each reboot/restart. Then, after one upgrade, I guess it was the "lucky you" the problem went away entirely and after one of the following uogrades it came back, but not too bad, about one out of 10-15 start ups. Not something I cannot live with.
No doubt that the extension cord is flimsy, so is probably the dongle itself.

Yup, sometimes I have to unplug/plug the dongle from the powered USB hub so my Win XP SP3 sees it again. Happens every now and again. Just a little annoying.

My MJ has the same issues with put caller on "Hold" in the past couple weeks. I don't think this has to do with extension cable. This has to do with the software or profile set up at the MJ server. Why I said that because a month ago, I had the issue with MJ could not call some numbers. After I read the article in this forum, I suggested to the MJ agent and that issue was fixed the next day.
