MJ doen't work after awhile after boot

My MJ stops working after a period of time after booting. What usually happens is the dial tone remains even after I punch a few numbers. Therefore, I can't make a call and, I assume, no one can call me. This happens every single time I boot. Once it happens, I have to reboot to make it work again. Nothing else will get it going. I've tried shutting it down via the Task Manager and unplugging the MJ unit from the USB outlet. NOTHING I've tried helps. Any suggestions?

Make sure your USB Root Hub in deivce manager ( usually more than one entry) is NOT set for power saving. If yes uncheck and reboot and see what happens

I have eight hubs. How do I know which hub to 'fix'? What about the Generic root hub?

Visit each by right clicking and going into properties,go into the power management tab,uncheck the power save option and click OK.

Do this to all of them,This is the same problem I had with MJ the first time around on my Dell laptop,later I built a machine just to run the MJ.

As I said there are more than one, therefore you need to check the power setting on ALL of them. All that say USB ROOT HUB you need to check and if necessary UNCHECK the power saving setting.

Well, it's been a number of hours since I changed the power settings as you suggested and the MagiJack is still working. That's a record! How did you find out about this trick? Also, I'm obviously using more power than I need to. How do I get beck to the point where my power usage is optimal and the MJ still works?

Each USB device uses its own power and the MJ seems to like a lot or most of it. This is why, myself, and others use a POWERED USB hub. It works wonders ( and yes I still keep the power save setting off).
As far as where I learned about that trick? Ok I wll let you in on a secret it is up at the top of this forum, it is called SEARCH
Also I did a lot of reading of this forum BEFORE I bought my MJ 2 years ago. This IS the place to learn and get help, period.
I am glad all is well with your MJ now. Just remember as you learn more and more feel free to help others on here who are just starting with their MJ, in other words, pay it forward.

MJ worked OK for about a day - Now I have the same problem I had at the beginning of this thread. Now what????

Very odd indeed the settings didnt hold.
I had a weird problem once where I was not able to write to ANY USB thumb drive. It used to work just fine. So something in my brain said to do this:
I went into device manager and then the USB section. I then proceeded to delete EVERY USB entry ( save the mouse for last, I didnt Give it time to run its course as some entries dont delete right away. Make sure all your USB devices are plugged in ( yes even your MJ) then reboot the PC and all the USB drivers will be reinstalled. This is what fixed it for me.
Then go back into your power settings and change them. Then I would reboot to see if they stick this time.

All I can think of at the moment, other than trying a Google search on why the settings arent sticking IF my suggestion doesnt work.
