Magic Jacks cannot call area code 928
This is the strangest thing. My mom lives in Arizona and her regular land line phone has a 928 area code. I have had a MJ phone for over a year with 209 area code and have always been able to call her land line. For the past week to ten days it won't go through. I get like a 3 beep busy signal and the line goes dead. My mom also has a MJ, her's has a 928 area code. She hooked it up today and tried to call her home phone number and the same thing happened.
So it seems that MJ phones are unable to call the 928 area code suddenly. PLEASE HELP!

Hello DeeBee: Other folks have been posting messages here describing the same problem. I live in southeast Iowa and about 10 days ago I suddenly could no longer call several numbers that used to work in my region. If you'd like me to try calling your mom from my magicjack here, I'll be happy to assist. My email is: [awgabis] 'at' juno <dot> com
The main help I was hoping for from this forum is for someone who could at least verify that MagicJack *knows* about, and acknowledges this issue. I believe MagicJack employees used to monitor these messages. Does anyone know if they still do?
I sincerely hope this can be resolved, as I like the product, and have been happy with the service as a residential user for about 17 months now.
regards

It appears as if MJ is not paying their bill on time and/or having a cash flow problems and has made a conscious decision to drop calls to "high" cost areas such as Alaska and other regions of the country. I'm sure MJ will not come out and say so, but reading between the lines and what have been mentioned on this forum, MJ might be in trouble. The increasing number of area codes that are unreachable in the past few weeks suggest that something sinister is at works.awg-jr wrote:Hello DeeBee: Other folks have been posting messages here describing the same problem. I was "assured"
today by a customer service rep on chat that this would be solved in the next couple days. We'll see. I also demanded an explanation as to what the problem was. The "supervisor" I was passed to said there had been a horrible server crash
- I guess the only parts of the server that crashed though was the part that serviced small telephone companies.
I do have back up ways to call the numbers in question as someone suggested. I also have 5 years left on the 5 year extended contract and PLENTY of spare time to connect to chat every other day to complain about this until it's either fixed or they cancel my account
That's exactly what I plan on doing.
I realize how cheap the price of magicJack is but that's not the point. If you offer and charge for service you supply that service. If you can't do it for $5 then charge $10. If you find you can't do it for $10 then either offer to increase the price to make it work or offer a refund. Isn't magicJack regulated by the FCC? Perhaps it's time to write them also.

Same problem
Same problem here in area code 570. Can't call one prefix. This has been going on for a month and four chats later with MJ. That last chat, a week ago where they said they would have it fixed in 24 hrs, Friday, they admitted the problem was on their end and most likely a routing problem. Now i see on this board the problem is popping up in many area codes. My one year subscription is nearly up. The numbers I need to call are 90% of my calls and I can't call any of them. Something is very wrong here. Either MJ is milking the public and will fade away with the cash or the telcos are blocking access, or both This is only one of many connection problems I've had over the past year. As I told the rep, MJ may have saved me $200 or $300 in the past year but gave me a $1000 worth of headaches. I just tried calling my folks, three fast busy beeps and nothing.

The Google Voice workaround has been explained, here.
Get yourself a free Google Voice account, then you can use your MJ to call almost any number blocked by MJ.

Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:
-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)
Shaken, not stirred.
Google Voice is the chaser.

I'm done with MJ
I dropped my MJ account like a 1000lb lead weight. I've been using google voice for a month without a glitch. MJ was nothing but a headache after the first thirty days.

magicJack is blocking some telephone companies
magicJack blocks calls to many (primarily small) Local Telephone companies.
This situation can be identified by getting a "service reorder" signal which consists of 3 (three) "fast busy" tones.
If, when dialing one of these blocked numbers, you hear the signal described above - followed by an immediate disconnection, the odds are that this is the problem.
This has been discussed and investigated at some length on dslreports.com so I won't repeat it here, but recommend that you read the information available at the following locations:
This thread called HELP- Magic Jack can't call local ISP area code http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r245668 ... -area-code
If you wish, you may want to cheat and jump ahead to the final couple of pages in this thread... But for the whole story, and prior to posting, I'd recommend reading the full thread.
In addition, for a summary, check the first topic in the criticisms section of the wikiPedia article on magicJack here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magicjack#Criticisms

How can the forum help?
Oh, I dunno... Maybe someone will recognize the problem.kuhntech wrote:How do you suppose the people on this forum can help you?
Or, if they have the time to post mere nothingness - then perhaps they could try a web search and see if anyone else has the problem.
Maybe goggle magicjack and read some of the links. If they read the the 5th or 6th result, they would see & perhaps even read the wikiPedia article on the device.
They could know of someone who has the same problem.
Maybe they have the same problem themselves and could let the poster know that they're not alone?
P.S. Kudos to the original poster for mentioning the 3 beeps.
Sometimes, it's that small detail that can make a complete difference between a positive diagnosis of the problem or going through 50 other possibilities that are similar.
