Outbound caller ID spoofing with Asterisk/Trixbox?

I'm thinking about picking up a Magicjack in order to use it with my Trixbox as a trunk for when I occassionally have long calls. I'm currently with Vitelity, but when I have a couple hour long calls or conference calls that I'm dialing into, the cost sometimes increases pretty drastically.

However, one thing that I'm not really liking about the idea is that there have been mixed reports on being able to spoof your outbound caller ID information. I'd rather not confuse people with having yet another number show up, so I thought that I could just easily make that outbound caller ID change within trixbox. However, the last couple days that I've been reading over the fourms I've read some posts saying that it's not possible.

Are there any other fellow Trixbox or Asterisk users that have been able to accomplish this recently? Just thought I'd check before digging into this. Thanks!

Sorry, no can do, not for nearly 18 months. You will find calls via MJ are limited to maximum of 120 minutes. Many, if not all, 'free' conference services are not reachable via MJ. Care to post some of your intended destinations, I'm sure someone will test them for you

Disappointing, but not a huge problem. If I could set Trixbox to just block the caller ID completely that would be even better. It's not that big a of a deal to drop off after 120 minutes and then call back again, but is a little frustration that I read about while researching this possibility. However, in answer to your question, we use a Verizon conferencing solution number and not a free provider, so that shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes also calling some people on my VOIP phone for extended lengths of time would be useful for this.

As a workaround to the caller ID issue, can I set whatever my Magicjack phone number is to automatically forward into my main line, or is that not possible?

Also, just out of pure curiosity, will the NetTalk model that I've also been hearing about around here do better than Magicjack without any disconnections and caller ID spoofing to avoid the phone number confusion?

MJ is hardwired to ALWAYS transmit your MJ phone number. Remember, one of their most important revenue streams is compensation for handling incoming calls.
You can set your MJ to call forward. Little tenuous for now but you can handle via my.magicjack.com. Also try magicfeatures or magicbeans feature enhancement software. Will take a short for them to accomodate recent major update in MJ's control software.
Nettalk does not allow mod to outbound caller-id and its max call length is ~60 mins, iirc. The only advantage of nettalk is it is a true ATA and does not require an always on connection. That is a moot point for you since you are running asterisk w/ MJ sip credentials and not relying on the MJ hardware dongle.

BTW, you may want to upgrade to pbx in a flash for a more reliable and secure over trixbox digital pbx based on asterisk/freepbx
