What did I do Wrong?? Please Help!

Post by bigbear78 »

Hi, Tech Geeks

I have a big problem My MJ works but, if I disconnect it and try to plug it back into any usb ports on my PC, I get the message

MJ needs to be plugged into a USB port and it already is and if I reboot the PC than MJ starts up and everything is fine! I have

AT&T DSL and use a 2wire 2700HG-B (which is a built in DSL modem/ Router combo)! Please tell me what is wrong or what did I

do wrong??

Thanks for your Help! :)

I doubt that you did anything wrong. Mine started working just fine last night, but when I booted my computer this afternoon I got the same error message you did about plugging it into a usb port.

I got that on my second day of usage. Restarting did not help and tech support did not help. I ended up formatting the Magicjack and usin that upgrade.exe from Magic jack's Website. All was well afterwards.

You might try what CMM2 did by going to http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade.exe and downloading, and using that utility.

I get the message sporadically If I wiggle it and it loses connection or if I plug it in while xp is booting but before it finishes loading and plays the welcome sound.

My easy fix is

1. unplug the MJ

2, Ctrl ALT Del

3. Click the processes tab

4. Select the prcess called magicjack or magicsplash or something like that and click end process

5. Wait a few seconds

6. Plug mj in

I think the drop in power locks up the app/causes a usb issue and the app needs to be closed fully to allow the usb to go back to normal.

How do you format the Majic Jack?? I know how to remove it from my Windows PC thanks to this forum, but never heard of

formatting the MJ itself until now!

Thanks for your help! :)

Thanks for your help, but my Main problem is that If I unplug MJ from any of My USB port which are five while My

PC is on, and plug it back into any of them I get the message Warning MJ needs to be plugged into a USB port! What's weird

is that If I reboot my PC with the MJ plugged in it starts up normal and works fine! So If I want to lets say unplug it from my

Main PC and use the laptop I don't want it to say the same message and than maybe mess up my $1,300 Laptop! So basically

when they say it can go from computer to computer I believe they are not telling the truth!! :( :( Also, when it does work I

love it! I would hate to return it unless its truly broken, but It works if I unplug it than plug it back in and reboot which is a

pain!

Thanks for your help! :)
