Just a quick note to pass on some information regarding installing the new Norton Internet Security 2011 on your Windows 7 magicJack-equipped computer.
It may have been coincidence, but when I upgraded to NIS 2011 today, the magicJack only gave me a continuous dial tone when I tried to dial. I could receive calls, but they couldn't hear me.
I signed out of the soft phone, stopped the magicJack process in task manager, and unplugged the dongle. After waiting a minute or so, I plugged in the dongle, started the process, signed in, and everything seems to work fine.
BTW: Thanks everyone for the screensaver/monitor sleep fix!

It is ALWAYS a good idea to stop pretty much all running processes prior doing a new install.. Including MJ. The only running program ( other than several system processes of course) I keep running is my Firewall...

Its possible, but even in general without a MJ in your system it is ALWAYS a good idea to do an install that way.
Of course I take one additional step and make an image before I install anything new..This way if I have a problem OR don't like what I installed I can do a restore and it is like nothing happened or was installed ( so no crap left behind in the registry).
Just habit after MANY MANY years of seeing weird stuff happen. One can never be too safe.

majicjack Norton Internet Security 2011 and Win XP SP3
Hello gurus,
I updated my Norton Internet Security to 2011 from 2010. And that messed up my majicjack. I am on Win XP SP3 and everything was working fine till the update. Now, the contacts don't get downloaded and I cannot add my own contacts. I tried the steps listed above by OP but that did not help any. Can you please let me know if there is a resolution for my issue....

Maybe you need to add an exception for MJ in Norton as it may see the MJ as a threat. Also you can d/l the MJ removal tool from the MJ web page and then unplug MJ, reboot and plug it back in..wsud wrote:Hello gurus,

I did the remove and install again, that did not help. I may have finally solved my magicjack problems. I don't know if the Norton, the latest upgrade, my old phone, or the short mj USB cord were the problem, but the mj seems to be working fine now. I suspect it was a combination of corrupted mj files and a bad USB extension, but perhaps the Norton was involved since the first time I had problems was with that upgrade.
I initially tried Joe's above suggestion, and reviewed all the Norton logs with no success.
Here are the problems I had; only unplugging the mj or phone and restarting fixed it:
-Continuous dial tone
-Cannot toggle between telephone and headset in Menu-Volume Control
-mj process randomly stopping
-Calls cut off
After five tech chats, including finally removing the mj USB extension (and plugging directly into the back of the computer, as others recommend here), one or more of the following seems too have fixed the problems:
-Bought a new telephone
-Re-installed the upgrade
-Uninstalled the mj using the mjremover and two other programs, reinstalled. As an aside, before this reinstall I had v.2.0.3.5, but after this reinstall I had the same version but the on-screen dial pad was half-again or so bigger.
-Tried a different USB port. Initially removed the short USB cord without success
-I then got bumped up to 'the top 10%' support team
-Un-installed the mj listings in device manager (as recommended elsewhere in this forum; this seemed to fix the telephone/headset toggle problem)
-Ran the mj Recovery Tool
-Removed the mj USB extension
