My experience so far

Post by SayWhat? »

I just received my MJ yesterday in the mail. It arrived in a timely manner though it was shipped the day after I had ordered it rather than the day I paid like their website said it would if I paid prior to 2 or 3 pm. Whatever, it wasn't any big deal and it was still shipped out and received very quickly.

I had a small issue when I plugged the MJ into my computer, but the upgrade file fixed that problem immediately. I believe it took me all of 15 minutes to get up and running with my new number. No complaints there.

Connection quality on my end is perfect, I can hear the caller perfectly. Sound quality on the other end is lacking, from what I'm told my voice is clear but sounds very distant. I should say that I have not optimized my connection or tried anything else to improve the connection quality. Perhaps I will try that in the coming days.

I have to admit that prior to signing up for the trial period I read a lot about this product and I was super skeptical. I almost decided to not give it a try because of some of the bad feedback I had read. But I'm glad that I did at least give it a try because this thing really does work. I do plan on dumping my Vonage service in May and I may even order another MJ so we can have an additional line. For the costs involved it's worth that to me. I LOVE the fact that this little product is going to squeeze the telephone companies for all they're worth just as they have squeezed me for the last 30+ years.

The only real complaint that I have is with the software that MJ comes with, and it's not even the functionality of the software that bugs me. What bugs me is that it stays in my task bar when minimized as well as being in the system tray. I'm funny about my task bar, call me strange, but I like only programs that I'm currently using to be there. I wish there was an option to just hide the program and have it open in the system tray only. Other than that I'm happy so far with the service that I'm receiving. For the cost, all of the above is very minor in comparison and I would (and plan on) recommending this product to my friends and family.

Cheers!

Edit: I started reading here on this forum as well as playing with my settings and I found out how to get rid of some of the things that annoyed me. Now on with tweaking the sound quality. :)

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT all those instructions. that's tons more work then i did. i went to msconfig. but only had one box to uncheck and it was called magicjack. uncheck. rebooted the puter. and that was it. that's all i ever do when i don't want stuff running in my clock. frees up memory and pc boots up faster. what are the rest of those steps for?????

When you get tired of seeing that softphone on your PC all the time, re-visit the "run Mj as a service" solution. I also can say it improved stability and call quality of my setup... it makes sense due to the nature of how processor cycles can be given priority to services in the OS versus applications... others are finding similar results to improving their experience by manually increasing the priority of the MJ executable to HIGH. This is a far less technical way to do it and more cumbersome. The service option is more eloquent and offers other benefits like no softphone albeit slightly more technical to setup.

I think the instructions provided above are pretty simple.
