MagicTalk?
What exactly is MagicTalk? and how do we get to be the "lucky ones" who get the code to use it?
All I know is that I restarted my computer this morning and my mj wasn't working, neither was my magicfeatures. It was telling me to plug in and start my mj, so I unplugged my mj from the back of the computer, put it back in, restarted the computer and still nothing. So I took the mj back out of the back of the computer put it back in, and still nothing. At this point was being to panic! So I click on the MJ icon on my desktop and MJ started to load, but, never completely started the MJ. A window popped up and said,... " magicTalk If you received a code for the pre-release of magicTalk, enter it below. Otherwise insert your MagicJack into a USB port on your computer and continue as you normally would."
So what the heck is this now??? Where do we get these codes? and is this so called new service going to be better than the original MJ? From what I read so far from my google search, it claims to be......

Re: MagicTalk?
MagicTalk will be like GoogleTalk. It allows free calls FROM THEIR PC via a headset, NOT a regular phone like MJ. I rather have the freedom of using my cordless phone rather than being tied to a headset. Sure it is free, so that is good, but I rather spend $20 a yr on what I have now.Nugrl wrote:What exactly is MagicTalk? and how do we get to be the "lucky ones" who get the code to use it?

MagicTalk will use the same softphone like MJ does, I think that is what the BIG update of 2 weeks or so ago was all about, to get the MJ ducks in a row for the Magictalk release.
Others on here have received the MagicTalk screen too, check out http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t9710.html

ok, here is where I am at with it now. I moved the mj over to another computer here. It of course had to apply the ever-loving "Lucky Me" update once I plugged it into the other computer, because it has not been attached to that said computer for some time now. However, now my magicfeatures is not working, because it is the older version on that computer, and at this point, I am afraid to update the magicfeatures right now, because my phone is now working.......... I'm afraid if I update the magicfeatures, then the magictalk thing will try coming thru on that computer........ any suggestions.
I read the thread that you posted the link to, and apparently I am not the only "Lucky One" that this is happening to!

Has anyone noticed any improvement since the latest upgrade? I rarely use my MJ any more since I've become gun shy with the inconsistent service.I think that is what the BIG update of 2 weeks or so ago was all about, to get the MJ ducks in a row for the Magictalk release.
Even recently, a few folks were complaining about the echo. I find Google Voice much more reliable and now that I can dial out through Google Talk, I like it even more. I know a lot of folks don't like being tethered to their computer, but most of my phone time is at the computer anyway, so it's not an issue for me.
It seems a lot of new users especially, seem to relate a positive experience with their MJ, so I'm wondering what a larger population is finding? Thanks...
well I can say that I have not noticed any vast improvements to my call quality since this last upgrade. but my service with magicjack all along has been glitchy. I can't say that it has ever been perfect. Don't get me wrong there are times that the phone does function as I think it should, but I would say it does not more than it does............ I just keep telling myself though, that I am saving a hell of alot of money over my normal monthly verizon bill, so I just try to deal with it.

I cant tell you what to do, but if you plan on leaving your MJ on the other PC and want your MF to work again I don't really see how you have a choice in not updating MF to the new version.Nugrl wrote:ok, here is where I am at with it now. I do not think MF is to blame for MagicTalk coming up. Of course you can always exit out of MJ and see what happens.
Just my 2 cents.

Another option maybe to block the magictalk window from popping up. Run wireshark and see what the address is of the magictalk screen and block it. It's the same as changing the server your MJ connects to get better sounding calls. Another great benefit is also blocking the ads from showing on the softphone. Look at the MJ wiki http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... oxy_Change and this should help you.
Certainly not. My contacts are gone and we got the stupid green letters in exchange.Has anyone noticed any improvement since the latest upgrade?
The connection quality did not improve either, some people complained about not hearing me loud enough. But that coud be anything, our ATT DSL is not that great and most problems come from there.
I had some quality issues with Google voice outgoing as well, although most of ther problems were from before Google talk.
It has to be noted that the free of charge GT calls to US/Canada are temporary and that there will be most likely a charge in the future.
Which is O.K., the scary thing about free services is that you cannot complain about them and that they can be disconnected at any time.

Can you elaborate? I used Google Voice and was actually hoping for a service similar to the Yahoo premium e-mail service, where for a small annual fee ($20), you get upgraded features. It has to be noted that the free of charge GT calls to US/Canada are temporary and that there will be most likely a charge in the future.
My wish list includes the ability to send and receive faxes, forward to phones with extensions along with regular phone numbers, as well as the current feature set.
I would be most interested to learn more. Thanks...

I agree this is a problem. I twice used the free online storage service from X-drive. The first time they just took the free service away and I lost everything. The second time I was given fair warning but it does expose the vulnerability of the cloud. Apparently, even with pay-for-service doesn't guarantee success.Which is O.K., the scary thing about free services is that you cannot complain about them and that they can be disconnected at any time.
I have several people working for me and I'm using Grasshopper for a virtual office number with multiple extension. Same problem. They just changed their basic plan by raising their fees. Not a lot, but it's all very arbitrary.
I got the same message and found out there is no code yet. OK, so here is what finally fixed my problem: I was fighting with the screen that kept popping up demanding the code (which doesn't yet exist). I disconnected the magicJack from the computer and waited a few secs (about 20 secs). Plugged it back in and ran the upgrade. Here is the link for that upgrade:

Double click on the new icon and it worked right as rain.

Good luck.

Task Manager would of killed it right away ALT-CTRL-DEL, The function would not work even if you had the code because i tried. I cracked the program debugging it with OllyDBG so it don't do nada at the moment. Good thing im a nice guy because some of these MJ programs that cost cash even though they go thru a registration server means nothing if you know what you are doing. Magicfeatures works in a way that you can't hand your serial number to multi ppl or change MJ's. I don't want to get into the entire story of reverse engineering plus a 20 bux program to crack is a waste of my time so i paid the ppl the 20 bux for it and most software is packed to prevent seeing programming and resourses but it means shit to many!.
Right now I cannot find it but when I signed up for GT ( I already had GV)Quote:

the info said among other that I would have to pay for international calls however that calls to U.S. and Canada would be free till the end of the year. Since this info came directly from Google I have no reason not to trust it. Apparently they will make some policy adjustments down the road.

I did a search and what little information I found was quite dated and of no value. Also, I went through the TOS but couldn't find any reference there, either.
Leo Laporte has a theory that Google computers monitor their free 411 service and listen for key words and other references that will enhance their Adsense revenue.
Sounds logical to me. I was always intrigued by the notion the NSA has a battery of underground Cray computers doing the same thing. I figure Google has a lot more money than the federal government these days, so why not extend the concept and listen in on the free Google Talk conversations?
Okay, I'm going in to the other room now to put my aluminum foil hat back on.
