New MJ user (well... not yet user) All circuits busy message

I am a new Magic Jack (wannabe) user. I installed Magic Jack, got my phone number, but have not yet been able to successfully use it.

1. Calls out -- I get a dial tone. When I dial, phone goes off to a black hole. No ring, no sound, no message. Just empty space.

2. Calls in -- I hear a ring on the phone from which I am calling but then I get a message that says "All circuits are busy."

Is this a problem with my setup / installation or is it a Magic Jack problem?

Can you try your MJ on another PC to see what happens? Also if you are using the short extension cable which came with the MJ, don't as it can and does cause all kinds of problems. Also be sure to use a REAR USB port on your PC ( yes it makes a difference). It is also possible you need a POWERED USB hub as your PC may not have enough juice for the MJ as it needs a lot.

The desktop I use for MJ is very very cheap (not a thinpc). I use the extension cable that comes with the MJ and also connect the cable to the front usb ports. So far no problems at all.


PS: Im outside US on a minimal broadband connection (1Mb/256Kb)

Yes they work sometimes but SEVERAL users here have had them go bad, just like that causing all kinds of weird problems. That is why I suggest not to use them at all.
Technically a front USB port is a non powered hub as it is just jumpered off the MB. Sure in some cases it works fine ( usually if there are no other USB devices connected to the PC drawing power away from the MJ). But a rear port is a direct connection to the MB's USB controller. IF one can it is always the desired USB port to use. I can't tell you how many problems here have been fixed just by moving to a rear USB port.
