aSip on android now supports Magicjack!

aSip and iSip are the same app for different platforms (android and iphone respectively).

aSip is for sale @ Android Market for $3.99. Sorry, the price just increased to $5.99.
The description say the file size should be 22.11MB!!!, but it was only 11.06.
It currently doesn't work with MJ, which lead to believe that the version# is not the 1.1.1, but 1.1 that was introduced the other day.
The program auto starts with the phone, and there is no way to turn this off, why you have to close it manually if you don't want it permanently open.
Once it has been manually closed it force closes when trying to re-start, why you need to re-boot the phone if you want to have it up and running again.

There is no reason why it shouldn't work, since they use the same open-source code that was MJ-fixed, earlier by r3gis.

SipPhone on iPhone project used open source code: pjsip 0.9.0
The sip stack from pjsip is used as is. On top of that, portaudio code was changed for iPhone OS.
The project also makes reference to another open source project - iaxComm - for IAX functionality, which is currently disabled, but is required to compile.

I don't know... >22MB and constantly running - most comparable products are about 1/10th of this size. And, it is not as feature rich as others. I don't know but 22MB on an Android, that's enormous - in comparison: Flash Player is 4.23 and Google Maps 4.72.

I reported this auto-run and force close issue in the aSip forum, along w. some other wishes, 6 days ago http://www.vnet-corp.com/Forums.htm. It required to be moderated and therefore just got posted, with a simple statement that the new version support MJ. No further comment concerning experienced issues. This doesn't indicate that the company is overly reactive to product issues.

Further, aSip lack TCP support, why battery drain is a serious issue. Notably w. HTC phones.

In comparison w. CSipSimple, that has been confirmed working on Android, aSip is, currently, definitely behind in all aspects. And, is until I'm proven differently not working as promised.

(1) For MagicJack support, make sure you update to version 1.1.1.

(2) About the size of the binary, it's around 11MB and 7MB of that is the UI elements for different screen sizes of different android phones. The real binary code size that is loaded to run is only about 4MB.

Google copy protection makes it double sized, that's why the description says 22MB. This shall be resolved when we use their new licensing service, in the next update.

(3) To quit the auto-run, just click back button on the dialer page, you can choose to exit the app and not to run in the background.

(4) You can send support email to [email protected], which will be answered within 48 hours. The forum is provided for users to exchange information, and only monitored on the weekly bases due to constraints of resources.

I got the MJ registration resolved with these settings:
Sip Account

Advanced settings

Enable NAT Detect: ON

Why I can confirm it does work.
However, another issue came up. I could not get the UI back after having placed a call. I got stuck on a nice looking blue screen...

The vnet team has been incredibly responsive to my requests, and have resolved the bugs described above.

A new release 1.1.2 was just posted.
Two of my issues were resolved:
- UI now comes back up after a call have been placed (this was caused by the proximity sensor, that now is turned off)
- My FC's when re-starting application after having manually stopped aSip are gone.

Two features are still on my wish list:
- TCP support - I was told this is currently developed for iSip, and will thereafter be ported to aSip
- possibility to turn off the auto-start at boot (Due to battery drain, I use this for outgoing only) - If I understood this right, it will be addressed in a future release, or maybe not:

We will add one selection in the menu for customer to easy quit in future version.

My reasons for asking for these changes are: The battery life on the HTC Android phones are not the best. TCP consumes a lot less energy than UDP. Further, I only use VoIP for outgoing calls, why I have no need for auto-start, and a latent application drain battery.

aSip is definitely a runner up.
