equipment failure?

I've been more or less successfully running MJ on the same computer, using the same phone, for over a year. Now when a call comes in, one of two things happens: 1) the phone rings twice and when I pick up the line is dead (not a dialtone) or 2) shortly after I being a conversation, the line goes dead. I'm wondering if perhaps the MJ equipment itself is failing? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
