How can I save power?

I was thinking about using a thin client for MagicJack in order to save power, but I can not find one that is cheap enough for me at the moment. I do however have a spare computer. How can I set up this computer to use as little power as possible? Once windows is up and running, can the hard drive shut down? Can a usb memory card be used instead of a hard drive? I can take out the DVD drive, and and other cards that are not required.

Desktop computers will not throttle down for power savings like a laptop will. And, a desktop usually uses at least 100 - 150 watts. A Thin client uses 10 - 15 watts. If it is power savings you want, then get a thin client.

Out of the 606 hits on Ebay for thin clients under $100 you can't find one you like?

Brent, you may want to look into NetTalk. I use nettalk 24/7 connected to router. No computer connection.
I also have and use MJ whenever computer is on. MJ along with nettalk gives me two outside lines.
