I have successfully added the resistor too. I bought a coupler but could not get the thing to come apart like is shown in the photo on page 1. In fact I broke the thing - so I just soldered the resistor directly into the phone line and it seems to be working fine now

When I first got magicjack, the area code for my area was not available. That would be the only reason I would want to change my number - to get a different area code. I live in Kansas (913), but had to take a Missouri (816) number because 913 was not available.
