DLINK VTA-VD ATA

Post by kmem »

Has anyone used a Dlink VTA ata successfully? It seems to have less options than most ATAs. Thanks in advance.

Hoping someone can give me a hand... here are the options on my ata.

SIP Configuration - User Agent
Index 1 - This is the line number
Phone Number myPhoneNumber
Display Name CID name display?
User Agent Port should this be 5060 or 5070?
Authentication Username MyUserName
Password MyPass
Retype Password MyPass

SIP Configuration - Server
Index 1 - This is the line number
IP Address Proxy1.MyCity.talk4free.com
Port 5070
Outbound Proxy IP Address Proxy1.MyCity.talk4free.com
Outbound Proxy Port 5070
Timer T2 3200 sec
Register Expiration 6000 sec
Session Expires 0 sec
Min-SE 0 sec

I can change dialplan and a couple other things like registrar address via the CYT tool. Can someone tell me what the dialplan should be for MJ?

Thanks!

I use a dialplan that has 911, 7, 10, 11 digit support, plus 411 google.

Change the "1317", to your local area code.

Code: Select all

(*xx|911|<411:18004664411>|[235678]11!|<:1317>[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|<:1>[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0)
Are you connecting successfully with those settings?

Thanks for your help. Nope, it won't connect. When I try to dial I just get a busy signal, and the ATA's lights never go solid. Seems like something is wrong with my settings. I'm going to try the dialplan you have provided.

Change the port to 5060, usually that is a setting by its self.
Then try proxy1.Columbus.talk4free.com:5070, for the outbound proxy
Ofcourse change Columbus to whatever your proper city is.

Edit, can we get a screenshot of your settings?

No luck. It still doesn't want to register. Thinking this ATA may just not be compatible with MJ. I was able to make it work for Gizmo incoming though.

Here's a screenshot. You folks will see how few settings the D-Link has.

Was the ATA used for Vonage service before? If the answer is YES then you are out of luck trying to use that with MJ.

If those don't work, maybe try these settings. He said he got it to work with a different voip provider, so it should work for magicjack.

It was used before for vonage but has been unlocked and is no longer trying to provision itself though vonage. It's also worked well for gizmo (incoming) since then. Why would it matter if it's been using on vonage before?

My guesses: (assuming number is 512-867-5309)
Phone Number: E512867530901
Display Name: X
User Agent Port: 5060
Authentication Username: E512867530901
Password: (20-character password)
Retype Password: (same 20-character password)
IP Address: ads.talk4free.com
Port: 5070
Outbound Proxy IP Address: proxy1.Austin.talk4free.com
Outbound Proxy Port: 5070

If no luck: If this device has some debugging or logging features, you should be able to see what's wrong.
Otherwise, rig a way to see the packets with Wireshark, e.g. dumb hub, PC with two NICs, etc.

Thanks for everyone's help. I've tried both of you folks suggestions - still no dice. Hooked up a laptop with two NICs in between the VTA and my lan (with a x-over cable) and I can see what's going on in wireshark. I'm getting the following from wireshark:

ICMP: Destination unreachable (Host administratively prohibited)

Does this mean the login/password is wrong?

I did notice that in wireshark it shows
to:<sip:*512867530901

it seems that the E that precedes my phone number in the username is being sent as an asterisk(*). Is this normal? When I run wireshark on a computer using the MJ it sends the proper E.

Okay, the problem is that the VTA can only pass the letters A,B,C or D. It can't send an E. It sends my username as *512867530901 rather than E512867530901. Very odd. I've upgraded the firmware and there are a ton of new options and settings but it still won't pass the username properly! It's a damn shame because I really like the form factor of this ATA. I'm still hunting around for an asterisk port or some kind of modified firmware that will fix this issue. This ATA runs busybox so theoretically it should be possible to port asterisk to it but I don't have the experience to take on such a task. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.
