27, 28... No wait... Why am I hurrying again? They update that damn page everyday. When I first visited the page, I was like rats, I got to order today, or else the offer is gone. Little did I know it was a trick. A very sleezy one at that. Only 20k magicjacks left huh? Sure.... Whatever you say... I love my magicjack, but its a little hard to recommend a product to friends and family, when they are doing things like this. They loose a little credibility.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sales tactics......Just as you see in infomercials......"if you order within the next 10 min, we'll include not one, not two, but three of our *&%*&% for the same price. Two hrs later, you see the same commercial.

I agree, the way they try to sell the units, they try to make you feel as though the offer is going to expire within the qty or timeframe.

I don't really care how they promote the units, I'm just happy that they work as the site claims they will and for the price.

If they are selling as many units as they say they are, there is no reason to do something as obviously dishonest as this.
I could see if they weren't selling any units or if the guys involved were at risk of losing lots of money but these guys are apparently rich and they are still risking their credibility for nothing.

I am in retail; don't believe everything in print, on the radio or TV.
One of the best is the car dealers:
$99.00 Down $199.00 per month; "if your credit score is 750 or more"

These guys are losing lots of money. Their sense of urgency is very real. And we all need to hope it works for them. MJ "live long and prosper".

Why are these guys losing so much money if they have a great product? Is it just becuase of the crappy customer service?

Where does it state they are loosing money?

I figure these modules are mass produced somewhere in China and for what they are being sold for, MJ is making money like crazy for the number of units they are selling. Also the money pulled in from ppl buying the extended years as well.

infrastructure costs....?

Post by camerons »

Sure they may not be losing anything on the magic jacks themselves but there is a lot more expense to this network including the servers and number assignments.... If this were simply a computer to computer service it would be much cheaper than including UNLIMITED calling to ALL the telephone sets in North America.

The ad methods being used are an attempt to create a sense of urgency in order to generate sales. Sure there is a little bit of puffery in the ads too, but it does generate the sales.

I'd still like to see where it states that Dan is not making money with this product. He has been very successful with past ventures and it's been proven he knows this business very well.

I plugged in some numbers once, just for the heck of it, using some figures I got from one of Dan's interviews. Of course, I don't know how he gets paid from connect fees and other things I've seen mentioned but at $40 a pop, I figure he and the missus will be able to afford beer and cigarettes for a while.

Personally, I think it's brilliant. I suspect the real money will come in when he starts filling the left side of the softphone with advertising.

Yeah..... I bet he will make some bucks with the advertising on the softphone from people that want to advertise thru his company.

I remember several years ago, there was an outfit called FireTalk where you could make calls from your pc but only with a headset. You could also make calls from a pay phone, but you only got 15 min to talk and also had to listen to ads prior to making a call to someone. The service was totally free, which I think was the reason the company went under not long after it first started up.

I feel Dan will do very well with this new adventure with MJ and I'm sure there will be continued improvements with it along the way.
