That's great, I have a question for you.

I got my magicjack 2 weeks ago and it works beautifully and I've had no problems with it at home. Yesterday, I decided to go out and test it outside and see how it behaves. I first went to a public library with my laptop and a magicjack attached to it. The library has public open wi-fi and I connected to it and made a call through magicjack. It went through and as usual, there was NO problem.

Then I found that there was another public wi-fi available. This one is by il sans fils, which is a a non-profit organization here in Montreal, made up of a group of volunteers that have set up numerous hot spot around the city here in Montreal and provide free public access to coffee shops, libraries, etc. Out of curiosity, I connected to it and although I had no problems accessing the internet and I could surf, but magicjack refused to connect. It first displayed my phone number and then immediately after, error No. 3 came up. Now I've been reading about error No. 3 and - correct me if wrong - that shows up apparently when magicjack has trouble connecting to the internet. So I used www.speedtest.net and I found that my connection speed was OK.

Next I went to a coffee shop where they have free wi-fi access through il sans fils and in there, I could connect no problem and magicjck worked without a hitch.

I also like to point out that, using www.speedtest.net, I found that the ISP's in these 3 tests were all different. In the first case, with il sans fils it displayed the phone company "Bell Canada" as the ISP and in the second case it was "videotron" a cable company. Could that have anything to do with it?

TIA

I'm sorry I was too quick with clicking on the "Submit" button - Iactually found what the problem was.

Port 5060, or 5070 or both were blocked!

Mr Hacker

Can you help me with "clipping" issue? It seems like every minute or two the inbound calls on MJ voice clips in and out making it difficult to continue a conversation. I am using Vista Basic with a wireless G network on this computer. My internet connection is Cable with plenty of bandwidth.

Thanks

I can't find in Search - how can I connect to a cordless phone system that has main unit with answering machine and 3 cordless phones . It is a Uniden 5.6ghz, Digital, model #TRU9280-3

Since my computer is in my home office and my answering machine is in the living room, can I put MJ on computer, run phone wire from MJ into wall jack in the office. Then connect the main unit/answering machine into wall jack in living room where it will send the radio signal to other phones.

Do I have to disconnect AT#T (disconnected service) wires in the outside box?

Thanks, Don

You need to connect your MJ to the cordless base station. Follow the directions that came with your phone system to get the others to work.

IF and ONLY IF you first disconnect the AT&T line in the outside telephone box, THEN you can connect the MJ to a wall jack. Be aware that this won't work for some phones because the ringing signal from some MJs is not strong enough to ring a phone if it is some distance away. This is assuming that you do not use DSL.

Is there a way to make the diode shine any color other than blue. It really clashes with my computer room scheme.

Change your computer room scheme or place electrical tape over the MJ window

I have no audio on soft phone.

Post by John Gallo »

How do you use the soft phone? And why does the timer intiate immediately? Once I dial my number, do I press "send" then? I imagine I need headphones to have a phone conversation without using a real phone? I really have no clue how the screen phone works at all. Can anyone help?

Lost in tech land.

You only really need to use the dialpad on the softphone if your using a headset.

If you dial in the number you want to call using the softphone, hit send to make the call....the send button is just like your talk button on your phone.

The timer is just there to let you know how long you have been on a call.

The softphone has the contact window, you can enter names & numbers and MJ will store them so you can just click on the person listed in the contact window and the number will automaticly be placed without you having to key in each number instead.

You can also pick up your phone and still use the softphone while placing a call.

Thank you so much. The official site is really of no use for a novice/challenged person like me. I guess the headphone would plug into the back of my PCU? Otherwise, I assume that no audio should ever be coming out of my PC speakers.

In gratitude.

Uh, that's a no go on changing the scheme of my computer room, which would require a dumpster and and several strong assistants. And, I'm afraid that electrical tape would clash with the duct tape which holds everything else together

If your using a desktop or tower, you hook your headset up to the soundcard ports...you have to have a soundcard to use the headset. If your using a laptop, the laptop has a built in soundcard.....usually the ports are mounted on the right side....one connector for the microphone and the other for your headset speakers. If your going to go with using a headset, make sure you get or have one that the mic is already built into it. You can use your PC Speakers, I've tried making a call using my softphone and called a number that was just a recording and the sound came thru on my laptop speakers without having my headset plugged in.

I did pick on eo these up from a make best offer seller on ebay for $10 and $7.95 shipping.= $17.95 . Plantronics want $35 and higher for them.

To do the 'click here' thingie, just click the icon in your message window....4th one from left, second row (when you move your mouse over it, you will see a box below your pointer which says URL. It's the icon just to the right of the square white box icon.

Click that icon and a box will pop up, then just cut/paste or type in the url you want and click OK. Another box will pop up and ask you to type in Web Page Name highlighted.

Type the name you want such as "Click Here" and hit the OK button.

The script will show in your message window, but after you click Preview or Submit, it will change to the clickable name you assigned it.

We have been hard on Mr. Hacker but the more I think about it, he may have been making a statement about the lousy support at the official site. That is basicly their statement as well, "We are here to help".

I have had MagicJack since May and have suddenly run into an unbelievably pesky problem. I am running Windows XP sp 2 fully updated, Realtek AC97 Audio drivers fully updated
First, the unit has worked flawlessly till around two weeks ago.

Next, this is what it is doing: I cannot toggle between headphone mode (which it is stuck in) and phone mode.
The computer softphone works.

I have done the following: changed the unit to another computer and it does toggle but after one short call repeatably shuts down. I put it back to the main computer and it does not allow me to toggle. On the softphone I can call and talk all I want. On the softphone when I trying to toggle it shuts down with an error.

I talked with livetalk tech support and they did all kinds of things. I ran the fix-it routine and downloaded the upgrade, repeatably. I removed Musicmatch from the computer - no big issue. I down loaded Divix software for a codec. I deleted lines of code, even reformatted the unit and still nothing. I think they did things on their end as well but nothing worked. So finally, after three days and seven techs later and an email to the owner/developer they finally agreed to send out a replacement. I installed it and registered the new MJ and the same problem. So I surmised that the problem lies within the computer's software. But tech support has no idea as to what is causing the problem.

I love the idea behind MJ but I suspect that this is a very young product that needs more time to work these bugs out.

Can you offer me a fix or possible solution for fixing this "non-toggle" problem?

Magicjack dosen't work as advertised

Post by Russ Myers »

We have had the Magicjack devise for over a month now. From day one we had issues with the devise....voice "skipping", and sound.

After about two weeks of hanging on the phone with Magicjack, we got the sound issue resolved, however, the voice "skipping" continues to be so bad we cannot understand what the caller is saying.

We have interchaged phones. We have changed locations, thinking maybe some unknown interference

Magicjack told us they would send a replacement, have still never received it.

Called Magicjack again today. NOW they say they hadn't shipped a replacement, but will do so today.

One of the magicjack operators attempted to provide a download for restore of the Magicjack. the file was so corrupted it caused the hard drive on one of my computers to crash and must now be replaced.

If anyone knows how to prevent the voice skipping issues, PLEASE respond.

Tech kept telling me to change USB ports but heck i'm on my last one and its still messed up.
