Help! ...Error opening URL

Post by MysticalDream »

I just installed my MagicJack a couple of days ago. Love it! Works extremely wonderful! I'm SOLD!In coming and outgoing have never been an issue. The only problem I am having is. Each time I go to the MagicJack icon on my computer? If I click on the tab weather? I get a error message that says...Error opening URL: The system can not find the file specified. I get the same thing when I click on the AOL tab and the Yahoo tab. I even get a error message when I click on the menu advanced users area and click on 411 directory. I went to the Magicjack tech for help and they sent me a upgrade to windows XP and even Vista even though I don't have Vista. I unplugged MagicJack and tried it in all 3 of my other USB ports and I'm still having the exact same error message. I'm running windows XP Pro, running on a Pentium 4, 1000, broadband high speed cable Internet at 6 MG. I would really like ALL OF MY MAGICJACK TO WORK AND NOT JUST SOME OF IT. Can someone Please please help me with what in the world I can do to fix this problem? I would really truly appreciate any help from anyone at all. Thanks so much for your time. Cath :)

Sounds like you may have an issue with your Internet Explorer.......what service pack are you running?

Try deleting your cookies, cache and temp internet files. Make sure your running the latest version of Java

It's possible something didn't load correctly on your softphone.....you might try this update once again

I'm running Windows XP Pro with the service pack 2. I did empty my temp files just now and my cookies as you mentioned. I did the upgrade again with the up-grade you gave to me and I restarted my Magicjack once again. I'm still having the same problem. I'm not sure what you mean by a softphone either? I really don't know what else to do? Hmmm...

The softphone is the dialpad that pops up on your screen which has your aol, weather, keypad, etc. Did you also check to see that you have the latest Java installed? MJ uses this s/w.

Something within your system is preventing you to load those other buttons that you click on your softphone keypad.

Thank you so much for your help Lonestarmagic. I just went in to my control panel and went to the Internet Options icon then to the programs tab and noticed at the bottom that my Internet Explorer was not checked for my default web browser so I put a check in that and under that? I noticed my add on's were disabled to. I enabled them as well. All is working just fine now. I have my AOL tab working now, My Yahoo tab is working now, my weather tab is working now and even under the advanced user menu? The 411 directory works just fine now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Your pretty smart you!!! Thanks a million again. Have a awesome holiday weekend. Cath :D

I clicked on weather and it opened http://www.weather.com/ in Firefox, which is my default browser.

When I did not have my box checked under internet options, programs as my default browser? I had nothing but Errors with all my tabs on my softphone. Now that I put a check in the box and enabled the add ons and clicked OK? That corrected the entire problem and also took care of the 411 directory problem as well. I unchecd it and the error happend all over again and then I rechecked it and all was fine again. So I would have to say it made all the difference in the world. Thanks for your opinion though.

Amazing what a little check mark will do for your computer :D

Another tip which has been posted on other threads to improve using your MJ:

1. click start
2. click control panel
3. click system
4. click Advanced
5. click Settings box in the Perfomance section
6. click Advanced
7. click Background Services in the Performance Scheduling section
8. click ok
9. click ok

What this does is free up your CPU to have it focus on your 'background' devices over your program's which makes your CPU give priority to devices such as your MJ.

Hi, MJ softpone loads, however:

1) When I try to run MJ fix in advanced section, the 'Error opening URL' window appears.

2) Some numbers I dial do not ring through/no connection at all, with some numbers I get a fast beeping sound (no connection). Others ring the other end, but I get a fast beeping sound on my end, and no sound comes through of the caller end.

My settings are the same as previously suggested in this forum subject.

HELP pls!!!
