I've had the MJ for about a week now and like it most of the time, but I am having trouble when making calls. Often the call is dropped during the dialing or while the line is ringing before the other person picks up.
Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it appears that my broadband connection flickers during each ring. This flickering results in the call being terminated.
I've searched the forum for similar issues and haven't found many others with this issue. I am not technical at all, but would like to get this thing up and working well enough for the wife to want to drop the landline. Please help.

I'm not familiar with SBC DSL, but sounds like you are loosing your signal between your puter and the DSL connection. Maybe someone will chime in that has this type of config or you can try MJ's tech support, but I don't feel you will get much help from them.

The 2Wire Home Portal is a NAT router. SIP is the protocol used to connect calls from your location across the Internet to MagicJack and then another phone. Latest versions of the 2Wire Home Portal support SIP out of the box. They can also can have a SIP Aplication Layer Gateway enabled which would interfere. Can you define "flicker"?brrit wrote:XP SP-2

No router
MagicFix is installed
I have tried other USB ports
Lastly, I am connected to the internet using a 2Wire Home Portal to the SBC DSL.
Hope that helps.
By flicker I mean the broadband link light on the 2Wire router is blinking during each ring when dialing out. It will be green when putting the numbers in... then go red when it rings once... go green during the silence... then go red again when rininging... etc.
About half the time it disconnects the call during this red/green light "flicker".
Any ideas?

Yes it is. According to your initial gut check above, and red link light described, there seems to be a loss of DSL link. 2Wire has all of the documentation and even an extensive sample GUI, if you want to try to help. This really belongs to MJ and/or SBC...lonestarmagic wrote:Is it possible to bypass your router with your configuration?

Verizon's Versalink DSL modem GUI has an add applications page. You can choose PASV FTP, or Net2Phone, or Doom3, etc. and it configures the port triggering and forwarding automatically. Setting the Versalink to enable "SIP" worked. Setting it to "SIP ALG" broke MJ, Go figure. GL. HTH.
