New Feature " Music On Hold"

Post by gashliquor »

I noticed when you put someone on hold they have music to listen to. I noticed this yesterday when i put someone on hold they thought i was on some kind of business line. BTW the music was Aerosmith because i called my MJ with my cell and had old lady put me on hold. This is a cool feature for sure, The other person had some kind of elevator music. So its not the same tune everytime you use the put a person on hold feature. 8)

There is even more features that were never there before like the caller id. B4 i say anything yes i did build a caller id box with a 100k ohm resistor. However this is the way caller id is working for me now and its different then b4. Im in florida so if i call someone in florida they get my MJ # plus my city. But if i call someone outside of florida they get my MJ # plus my state. The interesting thing is if i disconnect my caller id box with the resistor in it what will happen is unknown at the moment as im busy with other computer things more important then MJ and i only notice these new features because the phone is glued to old ladies mouth 24/7 and its running on my main network puter, I also noticed the volume on MJ has been increased on the incoming even though i have had no problems ever. Also when someone calls me at best i only get there phone number twice. Example 5168721111 and then 516 872-1111 at the bottom.

I gather this only works if your phone has a hold button, right? I don't see one in the Magic jack softphone interface.

To put someone on hold, just hit the green "flash/talk" button on your phone or "send" on your softphone. Both work the same way.

When two people call you and you want to have a three way, while one is on hold, just hit ## and you can talk between all three of you. To end the three way call, hit #* to cancel three way.

The music-on-hold seems to work on any phone by pressing the "flash" button while on a call, or if your phone doesn't have a flash button, just quickly press and release the hook switch. (hang up button)

Can I Customize the Music On Hold

Post by EarloftheWest »

Does anyone know if I can select what music I want my callers to hear when I put them on hold?

Good for a business, I guess. I have no use for it.
It actually pisses off most people I talk to on my MJ...
They play some BAD music.

The hold music sounds like the standard canned Asterisk hold playlist.

The hold music had me laughing at first, and angry quickly. some of the music anoying and very choppy. the should make it to where you can upload your own hold music. what would it take? 10mbs for 3 songs.

Yeah if that... but MJ is prolly scared. I remember when GrandCentral allowed you to upload your caller tune music. But someone scared 'em off because of copyright stuff. So, I think that MJ wants to stay away from getting sued:-p. All I have to say is.... YOUTUBE. I don't see everydamn artist trying to get videos taken off.
But that's my 2 cents.

Come to think about it... if the hold music is comming from the magicjack then you will be able to change the sound... Worth a look

Shoot. I just joined this forum hoping to find some little on-hold app for the magic jack that would allow me to use my business on-hold message. I'll stick to silence for now. Silence is better for business than bad, choppy music.

HOLD button does not work

Post by usnswcc »

If someone calls me and I put them on HOLD, when I click RESUME it gives me a dial tone, and the other person hears no more music but stays connected...but there is no way I can get them back on the line because it is disconnected on my end..... what is the deal with this? I have tried on other computers, I have had others call me from cell phones, lan lines in different states....HOLD button works but RESUME disconnects call!!! Very frustrating

Any way to disable Music on Hold?

Post by mohoelx »

Ok, so seems most people like this new feature, but it is particularly annoying in my case - is there a way to disable it?

Case in point, getting some of these 'random' occurrences of call being put randomly on hold. When that happened while I was on a conference call, we had to completely close out the call since the 'orphaned' call kept playing music even after I hung up, reset my MJ, and dialed back in!

Thanks.

When on a call, the little gray buttons just above the red End and green Send buttons come alive with Mute and Hold. I don't think you can put a call on hold by hitting "Send" like "flash" on a traditional phone.

When I had my error, the Hold button was activated....

MOH - Love it

Post by djbryce »

I was really happy to discover the MOH feature, thanks to this forum. I didn't see any mention of it on their website. Seems like they only have 4 songs in rotation, so hopefully they will change them once in a while.

Music On Hold is ALWAYS a fight at the office...what kind of music should be on there. Seems we always settle on Smooth Jazz since it doesn't offend anyone and tends to be calming.

My only suggestion to the MJ people (if they read these forums) is to turn the level down just a bit...it's too loud. I have to pull the receiver away from my ear everytime I get put on MJ hold.

To listen to the on hold music dial your own number and then put it on hold. Download the attachment that comes in the following email and enjoy!

ON HOLD feature randomly triggers interupting conferencecall

Post by bawango »

I have an issue with magic jack randomly triggerring "on hold" while I am inthe middle of conference calls for work. I have to redial back in and other end of call gets disturbed because of me interupting the confrence call. Is there a reason or fix for this? Is there way to disable on hold feature?

Thank you

This has been discussed here before, search is your friend.
That being said, IF you are using the extension cord which came with your MJ dont as it can cause many problems, including yours. Also always try to use a rear USB port on your PC. If that doesnt help, you may need to get a POWERED USB hub.

Magic jack actually does not have this cool feature, the music comes from a mp3 player or radio connected to MJ via a "music-on-hold" adapter. we found the music on hold adapters from http://www.music-on-hold.net most compatible with our 5 MJ lines we used the model SX8800-2L music on hold adapter. :D
