Putting someone on hold, cannot bring them back off hold

Post by duffmon »

If I call a number and put them on hold, they will hear intermission music, I can resume and both parties can hear/talk.
If they call me and I put them on hold they hear intermission music and when I hit resume, intermission music goes off and a hissing or static is replaced on their side. I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. If I put them back on hold they won't hear the intermission music anymore either just the static. I still can hear them.

Again to recap;

1. If I call them, I can put them on hold and resume with no troubles
2. If they call me and I put them on hold they will hear intermission music, but when I resume intermission music is replaced by hissing or static on their end, I can hear them, but they cannot hear me!

Anyone have any ideas of what might be causing this?

Does anyone have any ideas? My brother (because he has Satellite ISP) needed to find out if his worked and brought his to my place to make sure it worked, it did. I tried his also, putting another caller on hold and same thing. I use two different computers/ same thing.

Why won't Magic Jack email me back after repeated email about this? I started asking before my 30 days was up and still they won't help on this.

Does anyone have the same trouble?

duffmon: Wish I could help you with this one -- I don't have a solution for you.

Don't hold your breath on getting a response from MJ -- their motto should be "no service after the sale"; part of the entire reason for the existence of this very forum.

Anyway, hopefully someone here can offer a suggestion ... free bump for your post.

testing123,

Thank you for the bump. I take it that you're not having this trouble and that it's must be on my end somewhere. Hoping that someone out there can find me the info that I need.

Thanks again Testing 123! :)

Actually, I have not really used this feature -- I use multiple VOIP providers behind GrandCentral, so I rarely ever use Hold or Call Waiting on any single line.

I am firm believer in a diversified portfolio (in technology, or otherwise) 8)

If you get a chance some time could you try it and let me know? It would be nice to know if it's on my end or not.

I do not have this problem with mine and neither does my friend..
Did you try it out on a computer that is hooked up to someone else's internet connection (a different ISP)?
I have no clue if your ISP could be causing the problem or not but it couldn't hurt trying it out.

If your brother brings his magicjack over to your house and it does the same thing when you put someone on hold...
Then that might have to do with your ISP or something like that.
I really don't know.
Does it do that at his house when you try to put incoming callers on hold, too? Or does this just happen with your internet connection?

I would try emailing Dan the inventor of the magicjack to help fix your problems.
Many people who have contacted him (and posted the results here) have had their issues resolved.

btw, satellite internet is not the best with magicjack.
In fact, on their website they say it wont work.
So if he's having problems making his work properly at his house that may be the reason.

Just for the record, my line is doing the exact same thing.

It must be a network problem.

Ive noticed this problem for the last few weeks myself.. But never differentiated whether I called out or 3rd party called in.. Right now, if I click over it seems I cant get back to the original caller.. Just figured its a network glitch or something..

The problem seems to have finally corrected itself.

If someone calls me and I put them on HOLD, when I click RESUME it gives me a dial tone, and the other person hears no more music but stays connected...but there is no way I can get them back on the line because it is disconnected on my end..... what is the deal with this? I have tried on other computers, I have had others call me from cell phones, lan lines in different states....HOLD button works but RESUME disconnects call!!! Very frustrating
