Hello,
Been using the phone on my desk since I got my MJ several months ago. Now I picked up the phone and the dial tone sounded a little muted but I didn't really think anything of it but when I press a button the dial tone won't go away. It just makes the button pressing sound but then the dial tone stays on too. Soft phone works great and some, not all, incoming calls works. The phone on my desk is a regular old, simple, and cheap Emerson phone. Any ideas?
BTW, windows xp sp2, HP desk pavilion desktop, internet through a linksys router. MJ worked fine for months until this. Don't remember making any changes to the computer, router, or the MJ recently.
Thanks,
Chad
Phone not working, soft phone ok. Dial tone but won't dial?

As of today I experiencing the same problem. My dial tone is also now muted and touch tone sounds are not recognized. I am able to use the soft phone to dial out. I also notice the dial tone is instantaneously present when I pick up the phone. It used to take a second or longer to come on. Did you notice this as well?
HMM, did notice the muted dial tone. Thought it was just part of MJ crappy sound. But now that you mention it, it is def. muted. Didn't notice the insta tone though.
Wish someone knew how to fix this. I wonder if it is related to the auto updates from windows. Their tech chat is a freakin joke. I have called them at least 6 times and they can't fix it. The last call the tech idiot hung up on me because I asked him to read the previous posted text instead of reasking me everything 15 times.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT TO DO HERE? I am so frustraited that I could scream. They have told me everything from it is an upgrade problem on their end to updating java to restarting it 18 times, nothing helps and they always have me do somehting the will terminate the call so they can get off the line with me, like rebooting computer or somehting. I think I just really want my money back at this point. I have been down more than up since buying it. But I am past the trial period. I guess I'll have to dispute the charges with my card.
Thanks,
Chad

Well, I'm done. I have tried the tech idiots like 8 times now. No joy. I have even emailed [email protected] and received some general instruction tips but again, no joy. I am twisting the phone wires back together and going back to Ma Bell for a while. I had seperated the wires to feed dsl only to my office and back feed MJ through out the rest of the house. I have had nothing but problems since I bought it. It worked so intermittently that it would only make a decent back up phone and even that would be iffy. Good luck with yours, I'll buy again when they iron out some more bugs.

I can't dial out with a phone, either...
I spent three hours in online chat with MJ support last night for the same thing.
I can dial out with the soft phone. I can call into the line. If I try to dial out, using a regular phone, the MJ doesn't seem to recognize the touch tones, and continues to sound the dialtone.

I had the same symptoms -- my MJ started to not work with any phone I tried to dial out with -- except an old BELL System phone.
I held 4 chats with tech support (totalling probably 8 hours) to get them to replace my MJ. It became apparent that you have to tell them whatever is necessary to conclude unequivocally that the thing is broken.
I got them to replace my MJ -- just got it today. It works fine with all phones. The broken one is being sent back.
I hope that this new one won't break in another 4 months... obviously this is a common problem.
Therefore, the solution is: Tell tech support whatever is needed to demonstrate that your MJ is broken, unequivocally...

Oh, don't bother starting a chat on the same PC as your MJ. You really must do the actual chat on a 2nd PC so when they tell you to do X (generally registry edits) and reboot, you can do that and stay on the chat. Tell them that you are on a 2nd PC and that you want them to stay on with you til the bitter endcecoen wrote:... they always have me do somehting the will terminate the call so they can get off the line with me, like rebooting computer or somehting.
