Local phone company is blocking MJ

Post by bmwmick »

I just had an interesting bug. I spent 2 hours on Chat with Eve and April. Wed afternoon, something broke.
No one in my local area code could call my MJ number. They all got the "We're sorry, all circuits are busy now,
please try your call later" recording from the phone company (Qwest).

The Chat folks called me twice and the call came through immediately and the quality was great. I also had someone
in Calif. call me and that worked great too. I tried to call from my local hard wired phone and got the recording msg.
for two full days. I tried 3 separate prefix numbers and they all failed with the same recorded msg. Verizon wireless
was broken too, no connect, no msg, just a failed call.

It seems the local phone companies don't like MJ much.

Someone at MJ must have called the local phone company because within 45 minutes, the problem was fixed.
It WAS a bit frustrating to go through all their "format this" "upgrade this" unplug the MJ and restart it stuff but
the problem DID get fixed. I also have a MJ phone number in Miami. When the Chat tech called me to test the
voice quality, I got 305-454-4232 as the callback number. It very possibly is in India but I left them a msg stating
that the problem was fixed. Now I'm waiting on an email msg to confirm that they got that msg. Now Verizon works too.

Could also be a switching issue with YMax. They get funky every once in a while and have to reset themselves.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

How would that only affect the local prefixes? All incoming and outgoing calls worked perfectly.
Only the local incoming calls failed. This was after 3 days of working perfectly from any prefix.

A) Um... because Ymax handles all incoming callls to your MagicJack?

B) Because Ymax was the common endpoint to failed calls from both Verizon and Qwest?

C) Because nothing at Verizon or Qwest has ever been corrected within 45 minutes?

Zack: The issue in not on our end Dave. Please do contact you carrier
provider on this since you can call on the other area code.

dave: I ONLY hve MJ as my home phone

Zack: That might be on the other party that you are trying to call.

Zack: We dial that number and get the same response.

dave: OK - will try later - just strange I can call there

dave: with my Cell !

dave: Then the problem is on your end

****** Zack: Sometimes some carrier's are blocking the call of magicjack.******

dave: Do you knw why ?

Zack: Sorry for that Dave but I don't have any idea.

dave: ok -- lets hope "they" open it up , as 99% of my calls

dave: are to the code

This does not make sence as it would seem the carrier's could NOT do this .. ??

Humm - did not see this in the info I seen on TV :!:

Haha, well that would make sense because that's a magicjack phone number. And the technical assistance representative didn't even bother to change the voicemail password from the default of 1234.
It seems that very few people change the default password, lmao.
