MJ hogs CPU time and resources

Post by kakabeka »

MJ keeps my CPU running at 80-100%.
Unplug it, and CPU useage drops to 0-20%. Varies of course.
Any ideas most welcome.

Check your system Task Manager and see what program(s) you have running which may be using more memory and CPU usage. Shut down the ones that you really don't need running.

While I'm not on a call, but with MJ running, my system is pulling about 13k of ram with MJ. My CPU is at about 8%. When I make a call, mem goes to about 34K and the CPU varies at about 14%

Thanks.
My problem is not DRAM. Ihave lots of that.
The problem is that the CPU is running at close to 100% useage with MJ installed.
Pull the MJ out and the CPU useage drops to about 20%.

Hmm my 700mhz SFF Gateway PC dedicated to running my MJ hits about 87% when its connecting, but once its connect goes down to about 55%. So that definitely seems like a problem.

You might want to try installing filemon, procmon and/or process explorer.

For the first two, filter just on the process *magicjack*. See if there is excessive reading of files, etc. You'll notice that magicJack does some odd things, like read through your bookmarks, your contact lists, etc. It could be possible that reading through all of your personal information is too CPU intensive on your PC.

Thanks MagicHack.
Process Manager showed me that the culprit was Forefox, not MJ.

That's interesting to me... I have been monitoring magic jacks processes and have not seen it accessing any of my bookmark or contact lists. I have rarely ever seen MJ use anything over 2% cpu time.
